Presumably you are also the same age, have the same driving experience, and the same no claims bonus as last year? I'm guessing the car is also the same age now as what it was 12 months ago, and the value is the same?

    What? Go by donkey?
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

In New Zealand you can drive anything from 15 and don't need any insurance to do so.

The policy will probably go soon though because of the rise in cheap imported fast cars from Japan...

I don't understand why people are still learning to drive without looking into the full costs. When I was planning on learning a year ago I made sure I researched first. Lessons , tests , car , tax , insurance etc shhuld be considered before submitting your provisonal forms.

My advice is the same as others-buy a cheap to insure car like an old clio , KA etc and if possible add a driver. I'm female , 30 and still couldn't find a quote under £1200:eek:
    Stop being so mature. ;)

In lots of New Zealand there is no traffic so you are not likely to have an accident causing significant injury to a third party.

Glad you got something near 'reasonable' OP. I'm in the same position as you. We do seem to get a raw deal here in the UK. Most other countries simply insure the car, not the driver, and say anyone with a licence can drive the car. USA, Poland, Hong Kong to name but a few.
Olly raises a good point; our country is overpopulated, particularly with people who own their own cars. In USA I guess 15 year olds can afford to drive Chevy Suburbans because they have great long open roads where you won't see another soul to crash into for miles and miles.

Hands up those who would insure a male 17/18 year old driver?
  • having your pass plus certificate would save hundreds this year and for the next few until you are 21. By then you should have a few years NCB (all being well). It would be well worth the extra lessons.
