    it is 100% standard.

and to the guy who said i have a bad attitude, me paying £21 a week for lessons + £130 for tests and then £4000 for insurance because of some immature retards = getting !!!!ed off.

By all means, get it off of your chest, but it will not change anything, inexperienced, mainly young and mainly male drivers have seriously bad claim records, premiums are based on this fact.
  • I know exactly how you feel, as I've recently purchased a similar car to yours, mine being a 1.4 Clio, and the quotes I've been getting seem ridiculous, and its starting to annoy me now.

Have you tried Quinn Direct? They gave me my cheapest quote which was just over £3000, which I know still seems high, although when I went back to get the quote again they don't seem to be able to quote me now :/ Extremely weird.

But they are worth a try, also I've heard from a friend that Tesco seem to do reasonable car insurance for younger drivers, so you can check them out if you want :)

Have you tried Bell Direct - they used to be a lot cheaper for new drivers (mind you, I'm going back a while here)

You should have stated that in your OP before having a go at other posters.

Unfortunately you are going to have to ring around all the places suggested, and see if it's possible to get insured for less.

Otherwise you are going to have to bite the bullet and buy your own old banger which is cheaper to insure that has a smaller engine i.e. 1 litre and is not such a popular model.

Other posters are just pointing out what comes up on this board time and time again - insurers do not want to insure those under 21 particularly if they are male because statistically they are at higher risk of having an accident which will result in very expensive third party claims.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Unfortunately, being male and 17 in the UK = very very very expensive.

Have you been using comparison sites or calling up? The best price I got was £1000 with a provisional with Quinn, who wanted a further £1000 when I passed my test. A year later with a years no claims and pass plus thats now down to £1150.

This is on the second safest postcode band in a group 11 Proton (although it's group 11 any other car in that band is more expensive so group isn't the only thing they go on...)
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

theres no way its a true reflection of the cost most of these companies seem to be picking the numbers out of thin air. the range is always about 5000 between every company.

everyone i know at college pays 1500 - 2500 and i cant get a quote anywhere near that. ive tried putting in the price for a corsa and an aygo and the price is the same
I work in Motor Insurance and to be honest the make/model is only half the problem it's more important at a young age to get a car under a litre in engine size, the best of these are usually Corsa's. even a 1.1 or 1.2 will cost over a £1000 a year to insure.

The main rating factors are engine size, make model, age of driver, post code and driver history, and any ncd or pass plus will help. So someone of the same age with the same car could have massively different quotes dependant on these other rating factors!
