    That's debatable.

From Wiki (references listed in article):
    Vegetarian diet and longevity
Some question the claims of better health in vegetarians. The study "Mortality in British vegetarians: review and preliminary results from EPIC-Oxford" [32] concluded that lower mortality in British vegetarians was best explained by behaviours other than their non-consumption of meat. The review states that "British vegetarians have low mortality compared with the general population. Their death rates are similar to those of comparable non-vegetarians, suggesting that much of this benefit may be attributed to non-dietary lifestyle factors such as a low prevalence of smoking and a generally high socio-economic status, or to aspects of the diet other than the avoidance of meat and fish." A related review, "Mortality in vegetarians and nonvegetarians: detailed findings from a collaborative analysis of 5 prospective studies" [33], also tried to isolate lurking variables in 6 studies of vegetarian diets. The results suggested that the mortality ratio was the lowest in fish eaters (0.82) followed by occasional meat eaters and vegetarians (0.84) which was then followed by regular meat eaters (1.0) and vegans (1.0) [34]. As a group, vegetarians had a 24% lower mortality of ischemic heart disease compared to regular meat eaters.

It's no secret that compared to average meat-eaters, vegetarians generally live longer, are less likely to be overweight, suffer far fewer incidences of cancer and heart disease, and have more energy. These facts have been consistently borne out by decades of scientific research. The largest epidemiological study ever conducted (the China-Oxford-Cornell study) concluded that those eating the amount of animal foods in a typical American diet have seventeen times the death rate from heart disease, and, for women, five times the rate of breast cancer, than those who get 5% or less of their protein from animal foods.

You’ll live longer. If you switch from the standard American diet to a vegetarian diet, you can add about 13 healthy years to your life, says Michael F. Roizen, MD, author of The RealAge Diet: Make Yourself Younger with What You Eat. “People who

consume saturated, four-legged fat have a shorter life span and more disability at the end of their lives. Animal products clog your arteries, zap your energy and slow down your immune system. Meat eaters also experience accelerated cognitive and sexual dysfunction at a younger age.

IS VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN THE HEALTHIEST DIET?

When looking for the healthiest diet, people often consider vegetarian diets. But are vegetarian diets the healthiest diets? There are two things we all know with certainty. First of all, more nutritious food, such as vegetables, beans, fruits, raw nuts, and seeds in the diet have dramatic effects at reducing the risk of both heart disease and most cancers. The other thing we know is that as animal products increase in a population's diet, the risk of both heart disease and cancer increase. It has been observed in multiple scientific studies that vegetarians have fewer heart attacks and less incidence of cancer than those on omnivorous diets

As I said, it's debatable. There is evidence to support both arguments. The fact that vegetarians have fewer heart attacks and less incidence of cancer is not conclusive proof that this comes about by not eating meat. When you compare vegetarians to meat eaters with otherwise similar lifestyles, educational and social backgrounds, the differences in life expectancy evaporate. The evidence for vegetarianism is far from conclusive.
