Are we saying the heart was yucky:( or just the size of it? Because I actually buy things like heart, gizzards and tripe cos I think they're yummy

It wasn't the heart. It was the arteries in the valve. It was like a rubbery valve.

I agree it's worth a stamp. A few years ago we found a large (bean) stalk in a packet of Ross frozen beans. This wasn't a "foreign body" but I wrote off to Ross and they sent us a £5 voucher.

There were probably more heart valves in the pasty. It's just that those ones were ground up a bit better than the one you found.

Tinned cat food often has gristly looking tubes etc. in it. I nearly complained once because I thought one was the finger of a rubber glove :o .

i stopped buying/eating any processed meats about 18 months ago, it was partly the fault of that woman on channel 4 who examines everyones pooh, buy a food processor and make it all yourselves, or you could carry on eating "hairy lip, snout and nipple" hotdogs, burgers are apparently made mostly from the cows lips as the collagen in them helps bind everything, ten years working as an engineer in the catering industry and believe me your home kitchen is cleaner than 90% of all commercial kitchens out there

Are you sure it was a heart valve? Do beef cattle get heart surgery? I'd have thought that would be economically unviable and that an animal with a heart complaint would just be slaughtered early. I could be wrong, but I'd be more easily convinced that the valve was part of the meat processing equipment used in the rendering process. Unless you're buying from the 'Sweeney Todd Pie Company' of course ...

    Fifer,

Blood vessels have non return valves in them, it was a natural valve not some sort of artificial valve.

OP your meat was just a little coarser than usual, next time ask for fine ground, say your teeth can't cope with the coarse stuff.
