Personally I don't see it any different from buying a TV advertising that it can pick up channels 1,2,3,4 and 5. Then discovering that you are not in a channel 5 region.

Or buying a freeview box that advertises a few of the freeview channels on the box, with one subsequently going off air.

You have hit the nail on the head.

I have sky but I also have a motorised satellite dish to get hotbird, astra 1 etc and use a card and cam. The british public are not well educated on this topic. If you look at Lyngsat it will show you the different broadcasters and sky is indeed on their. But if someone else wants to broadcast on astra 28.2 then they can. Sky do not own astra 2 on 28.2 but they are a broadcaster on that satellite.

A good point others have made is "You do not need" SKY DIGITAL equipment to get sat tv channels.

You can get various forms of satellite equipment to pick up various channels, also ones sky broadcast on their sats with encryption others send out free.
