You are talking twaddle on the other thread - I will repeat - I do not hold Sky responsible for the Extreme Sports channel choosing to become pay to view - that I agree on.

the subtlety you fail to understand is that I do hold Sky responsible for misleading advertising and selling a package of channels they could not honour.

they have to compensate therefore for promising something they didn't deliver.
    To quote your own statement:-
"Sky Tv have been very crafty - selling a "mix" of channels and advertising some additional free to air channels that you would receive - then changing the status of a free to air one by moving it into a "mix".

So there you imply Sky had changed the status of the channel, not Extreme.

You also said that you would hold SKY resposible if a non SKY channel closed down:-

" 'Are you saying that if a channel decides to close down a few weeks after you subscribed to SKY, that you will blame SKY for the loss of this service?'

Yes - since Sky are the ones I'm paying!!! I would expect compensation."

As for false advertising just quote me where Sky said you would only receive these free channels if you subscribed

  • Sorry Aeronut but I agree with trisontana. somewhere in Sky's Terms and Conditions which you clearly didn't read it will have something about 3rd Party Channels and that they have no responsibility over them. Extreme is a third party channel therefore Sky by law do not have to compensate you for anything .

Thanks for backing me up PlasticLipgloss ! At one stage I thought I was going mad or that he was deliberately winding me up. He did not seem to grasp the concept of free-to-air channels. He is probably not alone. For many people satellite = Sky , which is not true. SKY are just one of many broadcasters. You don't even need a SKY box to receive these channels. For about £80 you can buy a non SKY box from Maplin or even Lidl to view them.

You still can't get it can you!!!

I don't doubt that Extreme sports may be independent of Sky. Thankyou for broadening my knowledge.

    However, answer me this -

Did Sky advertise what I would get if I paid them?

(I'll help you - Yes - A list of channels - which included Extreme Sports)

Did I get what they promised in their advertising?

Answer has to be No - they misled me whether its their fault or not they made claims upon which they took my money so must compensate.

As I said before its not your opinion that matters - my registered letter has gone so we'll let them and the Supply of Goods and Services act 1982 decide.

PlasticLips - I have read the terms and conditions - Thanks. However, if a company misleads by advertising incorrectly the t&c's aren't worth the website they are written on if they have contravened above act by misleading a consumer.

Please let me know the outcome of your complaint. But I think the words "snowball" and "hell" come to mind. You have no chance of winning !

aeronut i can see your point but im sorry but im with tristonana on this, sky dont control the 3rd party channels,

let me give you an example

lets say i saw an ad for telewest cable tv, for £20 you can get a wide choice of FTA channels including british eurosport, i sign up and within 3 weeks the channel has been moved to the sports package which costs an extra £12 a month, id be annoyed but when i look at telewests T&C's i see that they dont have no control over the 3rd party channels. Thats just life though aeronut
