Equigas / Equipower

Just received my first bills from Southern/Equipower - originally over estimated (cause my previous bills were relatively high) so provided readings online. Revised bill was available online in a couple of days.
Admittedly it's for the period 11 April to 15 June so not a full quarter (about a month short) but even so
£27 for gas:j
£29 for electricity.:j
I can live with that.

Hi,
I just got my first Equigas bill and I am confused. It is over estimate which is no problem but what I dont understand is:
Standard Energy 3343.5 kwh at 1.850p = £61.85<--- I understand this
Plus Vat £3.09<--- All makes sense
Total £64.94<--- Yep I am happy with the calcs even if they are high due to the estimate.
Then it gets odd...
Gas Adj to A/C Standard Rate <---- £28.58 CR? Huh? !!!!!!?
Plus Vat £1.42 CR<--- well I understand its vat on the credit
Payment due £34.94 <---- Odd
I rang to update my meter reading on Meterline 0800 thing but wondering what this Standard Rate thing is all about?
I pay cash, no DD.
Ta,

How many kWh did you actually use? To calculatea)
a) take estimated reading and deduct startingreading = x
b) take actual reading and deduct starting reading = y
c) divide x by y and multiply by 3343.5
I ask because I wonder if it has something to do with adjusting the estiamted bill to the actual usage.0 -
I still can't seem to make head nor tail of it even trying to take your calculations and work it out. It doesnt seem to match.
What I wonder is, maybe you are on to something because I am being billed for one month effectively, when they seem to have estimated a lot more than that. What I don't understand if thats the case, why not just estimate my usage and bill me rather than all this adjustment.
If they are having to adjust it, why are they estimating the usage so high? Anyway I have given them an updated reading and will see if I get a new bill through.
Thanks,

I changed to Equigas and Equipower last year from Powergen and have never looked back, the difference in my bills is marked and well worth it.
I found them through a switch site on here and it was the best thing I did.I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
Same here Ice, moved from Powergen.
EBICO send me a large print bill (not that I really need it, you understand). It measures 16.5" by 11.5". Cheap rates on a large bill.:-))0 -

It turns out Southern Electric have been pro-active on my behalf, what happened on my Gas account is that the reading NPower used to close my account was incorrect (My fault really as I got some numbers back to front on a previous bill). It ended up my customer reading was 20 cu.f above that what my actual reading on the meter was.
Because Southern could not use my original reading of 5965 because Npower were steadfast that my customer reading was 5996 they used 5996 as my opening reading but credited me for ~31 cu.f.
Very decent of them when I didnt even ask, all I was going to do was let my meter catch up with the actual reading which will only take a couple of months.
Mystery solved.
Cheers,

I am in the process of switching to Equigas - received the confirmation email
over a week ago. What I want to know is, do both your old and new suppliers accept a meter reading given by you? OR do they insist on visiting to read the meter themselves? Just curious because it is so awkward arranging form someone to be in during the day.
How much longer do you think it will take to be put on Equigas? I'm getting impatient for those low bills!!!Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
4. Once a date is set for meter re-registration, then our agent will contact your current supplier(s) who will raise your final bill. Our agent will contact you and ask for your current meter reading at this point.
Extract from my "switching" e-mail sent by Ebico. Lokks like the customer supplies the reading(s). That's also been the case on previous gas/electricity changeovers.0
