I'd rather skimp on stuff like beans than meat.

I wouldn't dream of buying Cheap meat, you get what you pay for , i only like it from the Butchers and 1 butcher locally only i tried Steak Mince from Newboulds Butchers and it had a nasty taste so wont buy that again and there Chicken was flavoured too although didn't say that. If anyone here in Teesside Best butchers in my opinion Kitsons in The Castlegate Centre Stockton

You clearly haven't worked in IT then - I have electrocuted myself umpteen times and it can burn and smell, the worst smell is burning hair though.

i refuse to buy cheap mince too. i get extra lean steak mince or the finest one.
whats the point of getting the smart price one? by the time youve drained off the fat, chucked out the grissle and bits of bone your'e left with nothing :p

Erm, the "extra lean" mince is another con.

Tests were carried out and it contained the same, and sometimes more, fat than the "normal" mince.
  • Kids will only eat cheap beans here, think it is because there is more sauce!

One of them has gone off sausages recently so I thought I'd stop buying the butchers style ones and try pick up some that would be like cafe ones, no herbs etc and smoother texture as he eats tons of veggies with sausage, mash and gravy anyway. I decided to get Richmond as they were a brand and so must be ok? Oh dear! About a quarter a block of lard was in the dish when I returned to the kitchen to clean up(I did not cook them). So gross!

I must say though that I love value sweetcorn from tesco, it's really lovely :)

I know its off topic but i would suggest that you try The Black Farmer, they have 90% meat content and very little fat comes out when you cook them! Another good brand is Debbie & Andrews, which has 97% meat! They cost around £2.70 for 6, but they are a much better sausage!

I've never found anything wrong with Asdas cheap tinned sweetcorn, we use it in loads of things.

A couple of other things, the black farmer sausages are very nice, but Asdas premium sausages aren't bad either.

Our local butchers is so expensive its rediculous and there is no way we could afford to buy all of our meat there, we use Asdas normal mince and I have to agree that it's not very good really, but compared to the cost of buying it in the butchers it's always bought,
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

    Ridiculous assertion.

A guy my mate knows used to work in a digestive factory they all come off the same conveyor belt some into branded and some into own-brand packets.

But with regards to meat I would agree.

I have a relative who works in a frozen food factory and one firms premium burgers are another ones budget range.
Same goes for a lot of stuff she says.
  • mince is one thing I wouldn't buy the value version in any supermarket, I've even heard you can get tinned mince

Preferably butcher's mince and if I can't get to the local butcher its Aberdeen Angus minced beef from the butchers counter at the supermarket.

Beans and tomato soup have to be Heinz but tinned sweetcorn could be anyone's really although as I normally shop in Sainsburys I wouldn't specifically go to Tesco for their value version. I use a George Foreman for grilling sausages and it doesn't matter how premium the sausage is there is still fat oozing out of them all.
