Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

***re AVG 9. You may find you need to disable the LINK SCANNER before it works properly***
It seems to be ok with linkscanner, hope hijack wasaok? never done this before

just a quick note. AVG9 also killed performance on our computer doing a scan, so I uninstalled it and went for the microsoft one as recommended by MSE. it's easy to set up, seems to perform well, and (hopefully) still does a good AV job.

Hi, it seems to be doing its job at present, going to do another speed test with scanner running now

TICK this in hijack and click to FIX it ~
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Log looks fine generally. Id personally recommend uninstalling adaware as its next to useless. Spybots TEA TIMER can sometimes create problems too

My main concern is your slow downloading though. It doesnt make sense when youve already run a speed test. AVG should have downloaded in a few minutes. Maybe try a reboot of your router?

As suggested before ~ id also recommend a FULL scan with malwarebytes at some point

It,s 1.1mbs from 2.6, thats to be expected I presume with scanner running.or is it? If it,s as thirsty as I have read, then mine seems not too bad, I think? My max speed on my line is 4mbs any way, but I do get more at times, 4-5, depending on time of day etc.aol.you know, not renown for the best of speeds, but I like them>but I am easily pleased.

I very much doubt just because he is experiencing a slow download he's infected.

There are a multitude of reasons from ISP connection down to the contention of your line and if a load of other people in the street are heavy users which will impact the performance.

Hi, Just tried download from filehippo, avira, just to compare with yesterdays performance. It only took seconds today so the site or my line must have been extremely busy. My speed test prior to todays download was 2.9mbs, just a tad up on yesterdays.I do have one problem with AVG(, It keeps switching my Defender off, someone else had this problem yesterday.I have to switch it on when booting up.Any ideas why?I am not using the other avs, they are just saved, as a standby

Just leave defender switched off and uninstall it. This is why people complain about various programs because they cause conflicts by running too many different programs which slows your system down. You have AVG and Spybot running so you don't need defender which is not much good anyway.

Hi, ok thanks, wasn,t sure how good defender was, it,s always been there in the background.I did my first scan with avg9 yesterday and it found and fixed 7 items, didn,t say what they were, unless they were warnings, different to 8.5. did full malwarebytes scan, nothing showed.I will just do as you say and monitor how good avg9 is. thanks again.
