Stay with AVG8.5?

Have used AVG for last year or so with no issues. See there is a new version out (v9) but have seen loads of postings telling of issues. Deadline for change was supposed to be yesterday, but my 8.5 version still seems to be working, although not sure it will continue to update virus definitions. Any harm in staying with this version for the time being?

As it now scores much lower than the free competition in detection rates (as it has for well over a year year), I'd be booting AVG out and moving to Avira Anti-vir or Avast, both are better.0

You should not stay with AVG 8.5, upgrade to version 9 which is definitely better. The reported problems have been with the Link scanner module, which you can disable if you wish. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Hi, Did not know anything of AVG9, still on 8.5.I have not been notified of upgrading, but read lots of bad reports myself.Would I be best to download and save another free AV before trying to upgrade to AVG9 without being notified? That would mean downloading, and saving Avg(, and uninstalling Avg8.5, is it definite there are no more updates now for Avg 8.5?You should not stay with AVG 8.5, upgrade to version 9 which is definitely better. You do not need to uninstall AVG 8.5, simply download the latest version from here and install. This will preserve your current AVG 8.5 settings/preferences. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Hi, again, just been trying to download it, taking ages so cancelled it. How long should it take? 20 minutes and still going seems a bit much or am I impatient? You do not need to uninstall AVG 8.5, simply download the latest version from here and install. Any of these free anti-virus products may have busy times on their servers, especially when there are lots of people queueing for large upgrade files
If you get bored with it now, try again late this evening or early in the morning0 -
