Off to buy mine later today :)

With the £10 off voucher it'll hopefully be £60. Partner has an HP Photosmart and does loads of full colour printing, and at £60 for a pair of cartridges (which I pay for!!) it'll be nice to see what this one is like.

HP used to be the very best you could buy, then they took advantage of that and started holding people to ransome. Not good :(

Will let you know how I get on.

wizzer the manual says the machine supports wep and wpa-psk (tkip) but does not support wpa-psk (aes)..... check which wpa version you are using.....

i am currently using wep, but will be moving up to wpa in the future..... having no problems at all..... just to let you know i have also enabled mac address filtering on my router, the mac address can be found when you install the software and it searches for the printer, it will give you the name of the printer, ip address and mac address..... so added that to the router and hey presto.....

also don't be fooled by the garbage talk that staples staff do to try and sell you more stock..... first the guy tried to sell me a £10 usb cable when i said i already had one he said are you sure its usb 2 if not then you can buy this one and just return it if it isn't. Then tried to con me on ink for £38 for 4 cartridges, saying that i will be in the store within 2 weeks since the ones that come in the printer are probably not full... well guess what they are full compared to other companies out there that do not fill them up like hp and epson.... Then tried to sell me reams of paper and finally a £35 3 year insurance..... nearly got mad at the guy.....

also note for those with hp printers and the like, the heads are on the printer themselves, so the ink cartridges only hold the ink.... which should mean that buying compatibles is better than for hp printers since you don't have to rely on the condition of the cartridge [i.e. the print head and the control part]....

got mine yesterday, fairly easy to set up from the laptop, havnt tried to set up the pc yet though,
called the nottingham staples yesterday at 8am, only one left and the guy kindly put it to one side for me, picked it up yesterday morning with no problems, he asked if i had usb cable but i said that didnt need it as was going to be using wirless feature, no other sales offered by the guy, when he put it through the till he seemed suprised that is was 69quid as he said that he hadnt noticed the price come down (i think he would have liked one),
seems a good machine, print quality very good for photos as i found out lastnight and have used the copy faciltiy this morning...very quick and good copy
thanks to the op and to those who helped me make my mind up about getting one of these

I don't know why some stores are having problems with these i thought this was a nationwide offer as part of their Father's Day promotions?. My local is still doing them, would be happy to help somebody get one if you were really in need.

There are issues with this unit running with Windows 98SE over a wireless infrastructure network.

    However...

Install just the driver alone, forget about all the bloatware.

The memory card can be accessed by visiting ftp://brw_30de0d/ in the case on my machine, those trailing 6 characters are the remains of the NIC address. They will be different on yours.

Scan on the unit itself straight to the card, and then access the card via ftp.

The drivers seem relatively stable within XP although definitely are buggy with 98SE and NT4 (my very stable server). Generally seeing as my work machines are built for stability and don't have any drivers or devices on them which appear troublesome, this printer only has limited functionality here.

In the case of adhoc mode, this presents problems if you're already in a WEP enabled infrastructure network.

Time to start using it here, have to get my eBay label templates sorted out...

    :)

I know that this isn't a technical forum but I'm struggling to set up the wireless network whichever method is used.

    Hi Wizzer,

Tell us what you've got and how things interact on your network and we'll take it from there :)

This doesn't need to go over in the other thread as it's so specific to what we're talking about here, with decisions being made on how straightforward they are too. Wireless printers are relatively new too.

    Hi There,
    Using a Belkin Router,
I've spent most of today trying to set up the wireless network by either of the 3 methods given in the user guide.

Eventually, I've got a wireless connection BUT I can't establish this with my router security enabled. Simply get a message on the printer screen that it cannot connect.

I generally use WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption but with this enabled I just couldn't connect. On the suggestion of someone above I tried WEP and MAC address filtering but to no avail.

I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions to the letter but to no avail. I'm reasonably competent with computers although not particularly strong with networking issues. Nonetheless, I certainly seem to have had problems that others haven't.

I'm running XP on an IBM ThinkPad.
