is there no other company that can connect you? I'm moving into a new flat soon and need the internet for my studies but BT says it will cost me £129. I'm not even bothered about the phone, just a good internet connection..
Are there any cheaper companys or would a dongle be a good idea? do they provide fast brodband coverage? and how much a month?
3G will run at anything between 0 and 7.2Mbps depending on various factors - mostly how strong a signal you can get and how contended the service is.
ADSL speeds depend on, among other things, how long the line is to the exchange and how contended the service is.
For most people ADSL will be quicker.
Where we are, 2.5km from the exchange, ADSL = 1.7Mbps and Three 3G = 2.7Mbps. But that's an unusual example.
Three doesn't require you to have a contract, we use 7GB/mo which costs £25.0 -
I've just spoken to virgin and they can do 10mg broadband, free weekend calls, modem and line rental included for £20-21 ( can't remember off the top of my head) also connection is only £35!! which takes a maximum of 17days
does this sound a good deal?sieze the carp0 -
I thought about Virgin but when I read the forums regarding their customer service it didn't sound too good and it's a 12 month contract.
I prefer one month contracts for phoneline and internet but of course that usually means you pay for the phone line installation and your router.
If you join and are unhappy with the service and have eleven months left to go you either put up with it or pay the remaining contract to leave.0 -
As i've moved into a new build flat I phoned BT today to arrange to install the line. I wondered if they would volunteer the information about the 29.99 installation charge when I specifically asked for the unlimited weekend plan.
As expected the CS rep stated it would be £127.99 and only when I said I knew about the offer until 30th June did they look it up on their terminal and then sign me up on that basis.
The first installation date could be booked for 7 days time in case anyone needs to know timescales.0 -
just my experience.
i ordered a new bt landline for my flat.
they said engineer is coming in 3 weeks time.
yet they give me a provisional number,
apparently its working but not active they say,
they previously told me bt had never connected the line or have history of it, yet the line gets dialing tone in a matter of days?
doesnt look like much work needed to be done, and then i spoke to sky.
sky said they can connnect a landline for £39, then £11 line rental, and £10 for broadband.
coupla weeks ago you had to have a tv deal, but not anymore.
good price i think.
£21 per month, broadband, fast connection, unlimited downloads including the line rental.
im not getting a phone either, just need the landline for net.
hope they dont expect us to make minimum calls. anybody know?
12 month contract.
bt customer service is ok i found, you email them and they call you back same day to discuss it.
yet sky, couldnt even find a phone number or email to call them!
only those funny o800 numbers that cost you
only reason i cancelled bt line was the £128 connection charge or similar to that. I wanted O2 home broadband for £7.50 but when i gave o2 the landline number, they said it wont work.... i guess as its not active line yet.....but say if i waited and then o2 still told me it wouldnt work.....then i would be very frustrated.. and stuck with bt landline and forced to find another adsl internet provider.
this is all very stressfull and time consuming.
so i signed up with sky today.
yet they say engineer will come in a months time!!
sigh..... and they wouldnt allow me to purchase broadband, they said buy the landline first, then i have to go online and order broadband at later date after line is up and running.
using mobile broadband with o2 at moment, ok does the job for browsing and email, but not for video watching, ive hardly watched videos and ive eaten over 1gb data in less than a week.
3gb for £15 for 1 month.0 -
Once you get a landline with Sky you should be able to sign up to O2 broadband.0

Hi can some one please enlighten me on my little problem.
I moved house in September, it didn't have a phone line and we got one installed with BT and of course paid what ever it was £110 I think. Anyway, BT changed their terms and conditions, which didn't suit us so we got out of the contract about 6 months later. We got out of the contract in March. Now we are looking to have a land line again (haven't had one since March). Post Office home phone say they are going to charge me to have a line put in.I have told them I already have a line and I paid for it only 6 months ago.But they say the number has gone to another address since and maybe it isn't connected to the exchange.
I have a phone line installed already and it has a tone as well.Basically I don't have a choice. Either
a) I pay for a land line again
b)Or I go back to BT
Can someone tell me if this is right? Do I have to pay again?
Thank you
