I'll watch it for the giggle.

I was taught to cook by Saint Delia, but she lost all my loyalty when she did "Cheat" I will be watching of course
I have Delia's original Christmas book, and it's invaluable for the countdown on The Day - my children know when they can get out of bed, as Delia tells them when the oven needs switching on :rotfl: They can then come and wake us (these days with a tray of tea :j ).
I have Nigella's Christmas book from the library, and am really struggling not to buy a copyIt's beautiful and there are so many recipes I'm going to try :T

I agree about the "cheat" series, I felt betrayed by that and only managed a couple of episodes.
I have had the full cookery course (the 90's version) for ages and it is great for basic recipes. Mind you I also love my good housekeeping cookery book, both have those basics you need.
The other cookery books I have are to read as a book and for inspiration.
Did have a countdown to christmas thingy that delia did a few years ago but have lost it, so will give it a watch. If nothing else it will help get into the crimbo mood. Mind you will watch any other crimbo cookery programmes for the same reason.
That was where I found out that homemade custard can be made early and frozen for your trifles etc.
But be warned Delia no cheating or I will be seriously miffed.

I watch her for entertainment value only...there is something about the way she says Chrisssssmas that I find, er quite Christmassy!
The woman has no sense of fat content / calorific value and justifies everything by stressing "well it is Chrissssmas". I shall be playing bingo with her vocab. :xmassign:Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I LOVE Delia and the only book of hers I haven't bought was the cheat's one, which I thought was awful, as was the accompanying programme on TV. I love her Christmas book, which I use every year, and have recently got the new one - her red cabbage is the nicest I have ever tried. I find her really calming to watch somehow - I hope she does the new show from the conservatory kitchen set - much nicer than her home one she used for the cheating programme. I also have Nigellas book, but just enjoyed reading that and haven't made anything from it - I don't think I could ever be bothered to make that turkey in a plastic bin full of brine malarkey. I am tempted to make the gingerbread stuffing though - I think it sounds nice - but I will have to make it on a trial run first because we all like sausagemeat stuffing so much.Jane

I still have the old Christmas show recorded on Sky+ last year along with the Top of the Pops Christmas special with Slade etc. Will put that on when setting up the tree. Will record tonights also.0

I would like to watch this, but DH and I have a guilty pleasure, which is I'm a Celebrity on ITV at the same time
:o:o:o and we don't have sky or the posh freeview that you can record with - does anyone know if it'll be repeated at all...?(Flippin "Celebrity" - it's taken over my life! I'm already watching Top Gear and CSI Miami repeats where will it end )
Like Delia a lot, find her more amenable than Nigella (Nigella lost me last year after she just happened to have some handy chicken feet in her freezer  mind you this was prior to my jumping totally on the OS bandwagon!)
Is it a series does anyone know, or just a one-off?

I got Nigella's Christmas book last year and used quite a few of her recipes Penny and most of them were great, especially the Christmas Rocky Road. It's a beautifully illustrated book but Nigella herself irritates me a bit as she is just ever so smug

I was fortunate enough to get Nigella's Christmas book last year as a gift, PP don't read any further....
It's brilliant, for me it strikes just the right note of festive kitsch and overindulgence! I take what I want out of it as I don't want to come across as a total Nigella clone but on the whole it is beautiful. And the recipes are reliable. Sure, you can go the whole hog and get the spruce-tree-shaped cake tin - or you can just cook the "ordinary" recipes - the beetroot and squash barley risottos are great, the peanut brittle makes a fab gift and the drinks are fun as well.
I'll be watching Delia on iplayer - but I do find that she can be a bit dry at times.0 -
I always think that Delia is a bit smug as well! As there is that on that I want to watch and dh wants two things on tonight I have very generously agreed to watch Delia on I-Player tomorrow. Isn't that nice of me? TBH I find cookery programmes on the whole like watching paint dry. Econ. Gastron kept me engaged for a while.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
