    When is the meeting?

All he can really do is go in, apologise sincerely and assure them he has a new watch and that it won't happen again. It will show willing if he is a little early for work from now on.

Let us know how he gets on
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. :cheesy:

Of course they aren't....the fella is there to do a job, and not sit in a canteen chatting to his mates.

This country is getting lazier by the day, and people like you and the OP just emphasize that fact.

if you would have actually read anything on here you will see that he wasnt just chatting to his mates he has been coming back at the same time as other people

To be honest you sound like you're justifying his behaviour. If he goes into the meeting with the same attitude as you ("but everyone else does, I wasn't late, it was only a minute or two") then yeh, he's as good as sacked.

The best thing he can do is to ignore your pathetic pleas of innocence and do some sucking up.

I agree with how the meeting should be approached but if you think about what langold said in the post you replied to, rather than your interpretation of it, its interesting. If I go to lunch with someone I work with and come back with them and one of us is in trouble for being late and the other is not, you do have to wonder what is happening.

When he attends the meeting he needs to understand his manager's point of view.
He probably thinks that everyone is on their best behaviour during their probation, trying to make a good impression and secure their job.
It's also the easiest time to get rid of someone, after passing probation procedures are much more complex, and after one year stronger employment rights kick in.

I expect his manager wants to be reassured that the 1 or 2 minutes (which may sound quite a minor offence at this stage...) don't become 9 or 10 after passing probation and half an hour after one year...

I agree about showing remorse, getting back early and showing enthusiasm and commitment to the job.

    Good luck!

    Erm.... one small poin here.

99% of people replying to this thread talk about the poor guy wasting employer's time by being 1-2 minutes late back from his breaks.

Looking at the times of the posts made here - unless none of the people replying work (which I find unlikely)

    - you are all wasting your employer's time by spending your working hours on a forum.

Pot calling kettle black.. Doble standards? etc etc?

How about .... sick leave, annual leave, maternity leave, paternity leave, flexible working, lunch break, tea break, coffee break, retired, student, stay at home mum/dad, carer, part-time worker, self employed, career break, jobseeker, redundant, incapacitated, etc etc.

I'm on annual leave - what's your excuse?

If none of the people on here work; then they have nobody to answer to. You have got hold of the wrong end of your own stick.

Well, if nobody from the people replying here works then.. they are detached from normal, healthy work enviroment and their opinions are detached from reality so somehow... invalid:rolleyes:
