It was this thread that got me hooked on the Forums and OS living - the beginning of my LBM (eco-friendly lightbulb: slow to light up but got there in the end:D). Definitely worth a read!GC April 93.92/5000

This is my first month where im attempting to be thrifty with my money, after a few months of going overdrawn. Ive told myself that foodwise, i have a budget of 30 pounds a week. This should get me all the basics i need and is easy to live on, right?
Only problem is today, on payday, i treated my girlfriend as she wasnt feeling great, to a chinese. This came to £19 in total. Therefore as thats food, id like to try and get to next Wednesday spending just 11 pounds on eating.
Now here are the things i do have:
Muesli
Milk
Eggs (Constant supply fresh)
Few tins of Beans
Lettuce
Cherry Tomatoes
Chips
Potatoes
Pasta Spaghetti
Chopped Tomatoes
Onions
1 red chilli
I have this already, so im hoping with that and using another 11 pounds i can easily get 7 dinners and 7 lunches. Would anyone perhaps care to help me with meal ideas for the rest of the week? So far im doing:
Thursday : Beans on Toast lunch; Tomato and chilli sauce spaghetti
Friday : Beans on Toast lunch; Potato Wedges, with boiled egg and salad
So just another 5 days to plan for!
Sorry if you get 100 threads like this every day, im just quite excited about doing a budget meal plan and i was hoping some people might be able to help me out with ideas!
Thanks0 -
Omelettes seem a good choice as you have unlimited eggs! You are so lucky I love eggs! Also fried eggs and ham make a nice meal.
Get some tuna (half price in Morrisons ATM) and you could have tuna on jacket potato. I would also buy some cheese.0 -

The parents keep chickens, so i have an unlimited supply of eggs when needed!
I've got just plain potatoes at the moment, was thinking out of my 11 quid i could buy in a few baking potatoes for lunches. I will definitely get the tuna in as i love that, and it can be used in pasta.0 -
spaghetti and meatballs
pasta 39p from sainsburys
meatballs 39p a can
you can easily make 2 meals ..

Egg, wedges, beans
Spanish omelette: using boiled sliced potatoes, onions, eggs. Serve with tomatoes on the side or nothing. Can also take a slice to work for lunch and have it cold.
Get a loaf of bread, some cheap cheese and a tin of tuna and you've got:
Cheese sandwiches
Cheese on toast
Toasted cheese, cheese/onion, cheese tomato sandwiches
Cheese/potato pie served with beans
Cheese omelette
Spanish omelette as above, but with cheese added in
Hard boiled eggs and soldiers
Tuna/pasta bake (with or without cheese in/on it)
Tuna and tomato sandwiches
Tuna and potato pie (layer tuna and mash in a casserole and bake in the oven for about 25-35 minutes). Serve with tomatoes/lettuce, or serve with beans. Can put cheese on top if you want. Can also layer sliced hard boiled eggs into this.
Tuna/hard boiled egg sandwiches
Get some sultanas and you could make a nice big bread and butter pudding.
If you have flour you can make giant yorkshires filled with mash/gravy or mash/beans.
If I were you I'd look at picking up a handful of the 10p noodles too. A pack of 10p noodles mixed with half a 40p can of red kidney beans in chilli sauce makes a 30p meal in a microwave in about 3 minutes.0 -
