hi teg-reg this thread was started back 2008, shockinly it did only cost 4p in those days. In 5 years every increased in price ridiculously.
The main reason i bumped the thread up as
a) tell a story of a person in dire straits
b) great ideas and tips for recipes
c) i think it inspires
d) tells you how to do the basics i.e making stocks etc
so yes the prices aren't the same, but i think the whole thread is relevant for everyone especially during the current crisis.0 -
Thankyou for the bump, I'm off to read the whole thread:j£36/£240

A truly inspirational thread.
I am in a similar position moneywise and reading through all the help and advice I know I'm going to manage.
I have taken notes for meal planning and lots of recipe ideas. I know the prices will have changed a lot over the years but it proves that when you put your mind to something its possible to achieve.
Thanks patchwork cat for bumping it.

Indeed it makes you realise looking at the beginning of the thread how much food has risen over the past 5-6 years wonder how the shopping list would look now if it was priced up.
Far more people are looking for the YS stuff .I have found that morrisons seem to do the best reductions.Tesco's ones are hardly worth even bothering about.Sainsbobs are not bad if you get there after 7 at night.I can't say about Asdas as I live too far from the nearest one to make it worth my while looking.I found morries on a Sunday afternoon after 3 is a good time for reduced Fruit and veg.Strangely enough Waitrose do some great reductions at times and my eldest DD (a Waitrose fan) goes also late on a Sunday for some bargains.
The small co-op about 2 miles away do some decent ones on a Monday morning for some reason.Tuesday mornings at M&S after 10.30 is a great time for reduced bits near to me .I think if you get M&S reduced its very good value especially when its meat0 -
Totally agree with Jackie!
It's shocking to see how much food has risen but DH pay rises in the last 4 years don't even begin to cover it!
We look for YS all the time now... Most things can be frozen anyway.
I find my local coop and lidl to be good and both walking distanceI'm C, Mummy to DS 29/11/2010 and DD 02/11/2013
