Hello Jasper, did you get your vouchers back? Nice of your mum.
And did you do a freezer inventory? I took a look into mine and just got stuff out of the top layer for tea - not much idea what treasures lie beneath, LOL! I am on a constant mission to use up some stuff and as money seems to have evaporated recently I made a special effort and didn't accept DH's offer to get something for tea. Instead we finished up a few things which is a good feeling and a LOT cheaper!
Am now making homemade fruity bread buns (happy sigh).
By the way I saw elsewhere on the forums that bigbrandsforless is doing a special offer of 100% extra free on foods from today till Friday. Even with £5.25 delivery charge, that's superb value if you buy certain items, but of course only buy if you're going to use them.The code to get the offer is BBFLXC 100%. Not sure if I'm allowed to link to it but if anyone's interested they are easy to find if you put a search on the Internet.

I just wanted to say hi and thanks, at the weekend I was completely depressed worrying about money and food... little background info, I am a single parent with 2 children of my own in the last month I have inherited my son's best friend who's parents threw him out because 'he was old enough to look after himself' we found him on the streets and brought him home.. I got him enrolled back into college the same week as he was supposed to start in september but because of his circumstances he hadn't . I myself am a full time Uni Student and I work, my children are at college and school also. Because we escaped a domestic violence situation when we escaped I went a bit mental money because I could but i'm getting back on my feet but food is a weird thing because we were limited in what I was allowed now i tend to want to keep everything filled constantly.. anyway feeding,clothing etc another teenage is not cheap so things have been a little tight.. eventually i will get some help towards his upkeep but it could take 3 months... anyway I came across this thread and it made me feel like I wasn't so alone. I went shopping today and manage to get enough to make meals for 2 weeks for £50 and that includes a slow cooker! and I bought lentils for the 1st time in years. Last week i was considering payday loans and all kinds of madness .. but this week I'm thinking we can manage and we will have enough to have a nice christmas.. I'm also considering all the things i can make with left over turkey.. So thank you to all of you who have posted on this thread you have given me some light to light the way with.:j
I stopped being a lurker and joined so I could post this!0 -
Hi Welcome
There are a load of special places on here for you.
Look at the freebies forum, up you income sections, learn about freegle, if you do not know about it, try the store cupboard challenge (although you seem to have that very much sussed) and check the benefits sections for information on Child benefit etc.
And try a pm to Mooloo, who has taken in her GD and had to learn the joys of benefits and "fostering".If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I've really enjoyed reading this thread. I only found it today and got to page 11.
It's now almost 2am and I need sleep. Will read the rest tomorrow, it's very addictive and given me some great ideas.
Night all :beer::T0 -
Hi All,
Just found this thread also, great ideas, I have lentils in the cupboard unused. The ideas here have encouraged me to use them. I need to cut back severely. I had TESCO delivery last night, because I received an offer, spend over £50 get £10 pounds off. SO I spent just over 60 and got the 10 off. However, only a few months ago I would have spent more like £130 or £150. So the cupboards and fridge look pretty bare! Compared to what we are use to. I thought I was being frugal then! We had more snacks and treats then, and loads of vegatbles and fruit which is expensive at Tesco. I now go to my local market and get fruit and veg there.
This thread has inspired me thank you all0 -
