Help! £40 to feed family for the month

Wow, I have spent over 2hrs reading this.... amazing savings guys!
I am ashamed to say we spend, for 2 of us, over £100 per week currently:embarasse
I am keen to start saving money, as it is very wasteful, and am going to make a list of all the food in my cupboards and freezers to start on a menu for this month.
We do tend to buy our meat from farmers markets, as we like to buy local and try to ensure our meat has been cared for before slaughter (as it is important to us), but I think we need to utilise the meat more to make it stretch further. It doesn't shrink like supermarket meat does which is why we like it, but we are eating to much I think (both at weightwatchers at present with a couple of stone each to lose).
You are all amazing and i am learning so much from you all on how to economise. I am ashamed to admit I never look at the prices when shopping, but you have highlighted how much the prices differ, so I will definitely be looking to start reducing my weekly food bill from now on.
My mum used to feed us on a pittance as children (dads a drinker) and she used to make a shepherds pie one day and use the leftovers to make pasties for the following nights meal.
Another meal she made was a rice dish, baked in the oven, with grated cheese, chopped up tomatoes and a couple of rashers of bacon in the rice, and a milk and egg mix poured over it. Cooked til it was nearly dry, it was really tasty! You could put any leftover veg or meat in it i guess...?Semi-retired, cat loving, married, Norfolk living girl.0 -

Hi - A while back I found some information and recipes for feeding a family for very low costs and now I can't find it - can someone signpost me please?
I think it was the forum and different people were sharing their recipes and meal plans!

Have you looked on the old style thread? Lots on there! :T0

It's definitely on the Old Style forum. There's thread on there about feeding a family on less than a quid a day. Something like that. Anyway, there's LOADS of moneysaving tips to be had over there. They're a friendly bunch as well0

Is this the one you mean? I was talking about it over skype to a friend last night, and we were amazed at the brilliant ideas that are in it.
