If the TV has a native res of 1366 x 768, 720p may look better as 1080i is an interlaced signal 720 is progressive scan so should look as good on a 1366 x 768 LCD as the 1080i would have to be scaled down. A full HD panel is 1920 x 1080 and this panel will display 1080i and 1080p without scaling.

PS3 in 1080i watching what? The PS3 has an AWESOME scaler in it, so movies should look good no matter what
Games should look good whether theyre native or upscaled.
So the pictures bad in what way?

I should say for gaming, because it made the writing too small......well the menus too small. I'll give it another shot later, see how arkham asylum looks in 1080.

I had a "changing resolution on computer monitor" kinda moment where my gut said "that doesn't look right" and switched back.

The scaler is lovely in the ps3 though, youre right. DVDs look awesome.

Id have to question your tv or the setup of your tv if it doesnt look right. True 1080 content looks awesome

I put it to 1080i and actually...it looks fine. I don't know what was going through my head when I first put it to 720.

I assume your using 1080i on not 1080P as your tv wont accept a 1080P input? In which case it 'might' look a little better on 720P depending on how well your tv deinterlaces etc

No, my TV doesn't support 1080p. It was only a cheap ex display 32" samsung from work... the equivalent model to the Series 4 line before they actually numbered them, if that makes sense.

You probably are better sticking to 720P then

The PS3 has an OK scaler in it; I wouldn't describe it as "awesome". It only supports horizontal scaling, which isn't great.

Oh, and Bruce Dawson is a senior software design engineer at Microsoft.

I'm not aware that they have updated the scaler's firmware since, or whether or not it's even capable of using hardware to scale vertically.

I'm not saying the scaler is bad, it's just not "awesome".
