Just had Virgin+ HD installed, better using 720 or 1080 widescreen?

SD shouldnt be scaled at all at the player end. The tv should be doing that
If the panel is 720 then I apologise. I thought theyd stopped doing them a few years back:idea:0 -
ahhh ~ here we go (I knew id remembered this from somewhere)

"Problem is that you can't 1:1 map the output from an upscaling DVD player, which effectively renders even the best upscaling next to useless."
1:1 means a perfect match. Anything else means the tvs doing 'something' that means its scaling again:idea:0 -

And that has to be the best bit of advice I have seen posted here for ages!At times any combination of my spelling, grammar or punctuation may be incorrect. Please do not pick me up for this as, after all, it is only an internet forum.0 -
with a 37 inch being native in 720, upscaled to 1080, use 720p.
difference is visually negligible on that size anyhooTarget Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -

Thats interesting because I just want a small 20" ish tv for upstairs for my PS3, we have a 40" Samsung LCD 1080p downstairs that is absolutely amazing but the girlfriend has pulled rank...
I was going to buy the one advertised on TV at Currys for £179 because it has a DVD combi too, but mainly looking for one with 1080p for the PS3 because the pic is so good downstairs, but if it isn't going to make any difference on a 22" screen, I won't bother, I'll just go for a cheaper 720!It's always darkest before the dawn.

As I said in the second post there's from what io can rememebr there is no real difference between the 720 and 1080 output.
If you're sitting a few feet back from a 37" telly you're unlikely to notice the difference anyway. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I would normally have said "stick it to 720" but I got myself a freesat box for my 768 samsung and on 720 the picture looked flat and horrible, while at 1080i it looked faaaaandabbydozi. I was quite surprised because my ps3 looks horrid at 1080i.0

PS3 in 1080i watching what? The PS3 has an AWESOME scaler in it, so movies should look good no matter what
Games should look good whether theyre native or upscaled.
So the pictures bad in what way?:idea:0
