    I have a Panasonic TH37PX80B with Virgin V+.

I use 720p output because that is the native resolution of the TV. As I understand it if you set the V+ to 1080i/p the TV will have to downscale the picture to fit the screen. If you leave it at 720p it will not. In theory the fewer times the picture is upscaled or downscaled the better the picture is.

Having said that I did not notice any real differecne bewteen the 720 and 1080 outputs when I tested it. So just have a play and see what you think looks best.

The V+ does an excellent job of upscaling SD pictures tofit a HD telly BTW.

EDIT: forgot to say I use the V+ remote to control the telly but I can't remember what the code was.

EDIT 2: Did you follow these instructions?

There are lots of different codes for Panasonic sets. It could be any of these

    004 005 011 033 062 175 187 191 200 202 242 274 290 302 309 310

The panasonics panel is 768 so it still has to scale no matter WHAT you select
It would probably look better through 1080i as at least the players not doing any scaling then

Sheep ~ it really depends on how much your willing to spend. At the cheaper end of the scale, 720P tvs tend to look better. If your willing to spend 550+ then 1080 would be better
Id recommend Panasonic plasma, Sony LCD or Samsung LCD. If you can afford 1080 in any of them then go for it. If not go for a 720P Pan'

    Dumb !!! ~ :p

Then 1080 is usually the best setting as the player doesnt scale but the tv does (otherwise BOTH are scaling)

  • Watch it at each setting for a while and pick the one that looks the best.

The only issue with that is there isn't that much HD content on Virgin yet so most of the time you'll be watching SD and scaling it up to 1080 via th V+ and down to 720 via the TV.

I prefer to let the box scale SD to 720 and then pass that to the TV.

Incidentally for the TH37PX80B according to all of the specs I have seen the panel is 1024 x 720. The 42" model is 1024x768 but not the 37".
