  • 14mths is not a reasonable life expectancy for a dishwasher (very few people will dispute that). Don't be fobbed off by Currys if they start down the "out of guarantee", or "you should've bought coverplan" lines. I doubt this would end up in court, but as someone else has said, the onus will be on you to prove inherent fault but don't let that put you off.

    a)Speak to them
b)If that fails, write to them reminding them of their obligations under SOGA, and that if necessary, you'll get an independent engineers report to support your claim, the cost of which you will claim from them if the engineer concurs.
c)If that fails, seek the engineer and write with his/her report
d)If that fails, off to small claims court.

If you've paid on credit card, then after c) you may like to submit a section 75 claim against your credit card company rather than going to court (saves you filling out paperwork and shelling for upfront fees) but less exciting!

thanks for the advice scullster, I'm pretty hacked off it hasn't lasted very long, and not even been in use the full 14 months I have had it, as it didn't get installed until the December as we were having a full new kitchen put in (I know this won't make any difference to Currys) suppose all I can do is wait and see what they have to say, they might totally surprise me and say "no problem we'll repair/replace it" (long shot I know!!) I live in hope :D
  • OEM basically means it is actually Currys own brand, made in China. Yep, I didn't know that at the time either.

Just a few of the bad reviews, googling will give you many more.

Currys and decent customer service should never appear in the same paragraph, in my experience.

    Ahh, you've never met me!

How do you think I'll get on seeing as it's outwith the 1 year manufacturers guarantee? are Currys normally willing to do anything or do they usually say tough luck?

  • Have you checked in the manual to see what E3 means? I had an error message pop up on my washing machine, I checked the manual (online as I never recieved the paper one) and found out it was a drainage problem which I could fix myself. Worth a try before you condem the thing!
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

Yes I have looked into it and it seems to be the heating element, not something I would try to fix myself and to be honest I dont see why I should have to as its only a year old!!

The store will be unable to do very much, sadly (this really annoys me), so you're first step should be the customer services centre people. I have seen people get repairs or even replacments for out-of-guarantee products - we once had head office ring up to say "A guy's on his way down with a broken DVD player, it's out of guarantee but we want you to swap it anyway".

As it's an own-brand one, there should be less difficulty wrangling with the manufacturers to repair it for us..and as it's not too old, I'd say it's definitely worth trying.
