I have been looking to get an iPhone but still not decided yet. My alternative is the HTC HD2 for which these deals are available according to Mobile Phones Direct website.

Vodafone Your Plan 25 + Web 300 min, Unlimited text and web and 3 months free insurance. £30 per month

T Mobile Combi 30 Web and Walk 700 min, Unlimited text and web and 3 months free insurance. £35 per month

The phone has only just been released and should be in the shops any time now.

    Hope this helps.

ive just got an HTC HD2 and have to say the thing feels better built than any other phone i have had, its solid as a granite.

Hardware wise it has almost double the ram, a 40% faster cpu than the 3gs and much higher screen resolution. It's got lower internal storage but is totally expandable.

It is windows mobile but its a heavily skinned windows mobile but its pretty good, they are even going to be upgraded to win mobile 7 in march.

Palm Pre is a capacitive touchscreen phone like the iPhone, but also has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and can do multitasking.

Should also point out that not a single phone on the market today can do Adobe Flash content AFAIK so you're aiming too high there. Palm Pre has been demoed running 3 instances of it at the same time though, so it's coming soon...
  • Do any of the iphone 'equivalents' allow use of itunes. Main reason for wanting an iphone is need a new ipod anyway and seems sensible to double up on much needed new phone at the same time. All music is currently saved in itunes and couldn't be doing with hassle of switching.
  • UniqeNewYork - when you say 'allow use of iTunes' do you mean the ability to sync music/playlists etc onto the phone? If so, then no, I believe only the iPhone can do this (although the Palm Pre can as well on/off depending on firmware releases).

However, most phones allow manual transfer of files once connected to your computer so all you need to do is locate your iTunes music folder and copy the tracks over, i.e. 'drag and drop'. (I'll presume most of your music is in MP3 and/or AAC format which are generally supported across most devices nowadays too).

Admittedly, not as convenient, but I'd say it was manageable enough...

If you are on tight budget, try Nokia 5800.

How useful the phone will be for you depends on what apps you load to it.

Select a system for which there are plenty of free apps available.

That limits the choice among - iPhone, Android and Symbian.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

I second that. The 5800 is a good all-rounder. I use mine for playing music, games, surfing the web, etc. Its a good all-rounder. If you can be bothered to wait, and shop around, the N900's worth a look.
