I have found that 10g of powder makes 100ml of milk, so I'd add 100ml of milk and only 175 ml water to make up the correct volume of liquid.

2oz milk powder makes one pint.
Therefore half an oz makes a quarter of a pint (5fl oz).
You need to use 5 fl oz milk and 5 floz of water instead of the 10 floz water.
I use half milk and half water for a roll recipe like this.0 -
I always followed the recipe and put the milk powder in, then decided to try without, didn't make any difference to the loaf as far as we could see, then halved the salt amout as it seemed a lot, no difference. Think you just have to experiment and see what works for you.whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

As a vegan I use soya flour instead. I think it is there to give the bread a better texture. I use olive oil instead of butter too.

I put half the amount of sugar in as well as it always seems to taste sweet otherwise. Works fine - sometimes coming over the top of the pan - but always tastes nice!!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

Very interesting about the milk powder in bread, I use a bread maker and put in the advised tablespoon of milk powder, bread tastes lovely BUT is impossible to cut until it's about 3 days old! Which is a nuisance because if I'm going to eat it I want it fresh in a sandwich on the day it is made :mad:
I have reduced the salt and sugar, next time I will omit the milk powder and see what happens.
Anyone got any tips cutting the bread? I use a knife and it seems impossible to cut a straight slice of bread, it's always really thick at one end and nonexistant on the other!KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -
I usually put the milk powder in,but sometimes forget.As people say it doesnt seem to make too much difference,though I sometimes think it keeps a bit better.I use oil instead of butter too.

The skimmed milk powder makes the bread look better (browner) when it is cooked - a bit like brushing pastry with milk before you cook it. I never use it, as my daughter is allergic, bread is pale but lovely.0
