I dont use milk powder at all, just ordinary milk
Not sure if it makes any difference,we still get a nice loaf!Getting debt free...0 -
i only ever put milk powder in if i'm making a "sweet" bread, like iced buns. otherwise i think the bread tastes too "cakey" if you add it to ordinary bread0

i always use milk powder, as that what the bread maker recipe book recommends. It does always have a crispy crust!'If you judge people, you have no time to love them'

Hi ..if I am using my bm I use milk power as per the recipe. If I am baking by hand I dont bother.I find bread in the bm without milk powder is impossible to slice..I have tried fiddling aroud with the recipe but have decided to stick to the one that came with the machine. I dont think either way you need to alter the amount of water or flour you use.JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200

Hi all, I need to make some bread and have discovered I have run out of milk powder as required by instructions for breadmaker. I have just signed up for the no spending between mon-friday challange so dont really want to go and buy some till Saturday.
Can I use either uht milk or semi skimmed normal milk in place? or do I actually need the milk? I have a morphy richards breadmaker and will be making basic white 1.5lb loaf if this helps. The recipe asks for 2 tbs of milk powder.
I hope my rambling make sense lol, I would be most grateful for any advice.
many thanks

Try it without. The bread I make is a simple recipe and has no milk in it, so it should be fine.
If you do decide to add the other milk, remember to take the amount of milk you add, off the amount of water you addProud to be dealing with my debts :T

Hi empy,
You can replace the milk powder with milk (and reduce the amount of water so that there is the same volume of liquid) or leave it out altogether.
There's an earlier thread that should help so I'll add your post to it to keep the replies together.

I'm guessing you could use 'liquid' milk but would have to reduce the amout of water to compensate - never tried it myself though :-)
Edit: Snap posted at same time0 -
Thank you for your replys, will try ad make loaf with half milk, half water and see what happens.
