Any clever tips would be much appreciated!
An excellent tip, you know I had been wondering how to make mascara last longer ... some of them dry out so quickly! Do they dry okay on the lashes once you've done this?
Nail polishes often dry up fast too, so I pour a little nv remover into them - probably a common trick!0 -
I didn't know there was a health and beauty thread. It would be good to have one to recommend good cheap products and maybe even stuff you can make at home. I've never found a better exfoliator on the market than olive oil mixed with granulated sugar. Admittedly it doesn't smell fabulous but it does the job brilliantly.0

I know the recommendations on shelf life but I don't stick to them myself. I've got some really ancient lipsticks that I still use from time to time. Never had any problem.
I do throw them away if they smell as if they're going off though.0 -
Make up is a womans suit of armour. When we put it on we are literally arming ourselves for the day.
I do tend to buy the more expensive stuff in skincare but I usually wait until the grabbit ladies find a bargain and then stockpile it.
Have I been buying more in the recession?
Yes. More slap, less clothes. Affordable treats maybe.
I badly need new workwear but am waiting until the January sales.
I understood you needed something more mechanical?
Perhaps a steam hammer;)In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
I have never found a foundation that suits my skin and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Do you really need a foundation. I've never got on with them. Prefer to use a translucent face powder and some blusher. Maybe a bit of YSL Touche Eclat or concealer if necessary. If you have to ... a little tinted moisturiser might be best.
I've got a naturally pale skin too.0 -

My hair is shoulder length and highlighted (a bit darker at the moment than usual). It's completely straight, which annoys me intensely as it's hard work to get it near to how I like it!
Is there anyone who's pleased with the hair they were given?0 -

I was pleased with the hair I was given. Less so now its taken to changing colour without my permission. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The idea behind this thread was a discussion of how the recesssion has affected our buying and use of make up ..... do we use make up as a way to recapture the feel good factor in more difficult economic times? As with many threads it has evolved and taken on a life of its own.
I think it should stay here though.0 -
I'm still buying Imperial Leather soap - if that counts at all.
Make-up coming into our house is a range of occasional treats of quality-stuff, budget-stuff, and even some quality cast-offs found at village jumble sales for 10 or 20p (including a quality foundation recently, the "name" of which I instantly forgot).
I'm unsure of all the challenges to the make-up/cosmetics industry with world market conditions. Some premium brand-names may continue to really prosper, but not all. I'm always happy to hear of success stories in the makeup/beauty sector (or any other) finding a niche to profit from.
