A question for the women ....

I'm still buying Imperial Leather soap - if that counts at all.
Make-up coming into our house is a range of occasional treats of quality-stuff, budget-stuff, and even some quality cast-offs found at village jumble sales for 10 or 20p (including a quality foundation recently, the "name" of which I instantly forgot).
I'm unsure of all the challenges to the make-up/cosmetics industry with world market conditions. Some premium brand-names may continue to really prosper, but not all. I'm always happy to hear of success stories in the makeup/beauty sector (or any other) finding a niche to profit from.
Putting my make-up tips on YouTube made me a millionaire .........
Thanks dopester. You all sound like very good moneysavers
I saw that about Lauren - must take a look at her YouTube stuff. Thanks. It does show that there is always a niche in the market for the right 'product' at the right time. Good luck to her!
P.S. Do you consider yourself a metrosexual? (Please feel free not to reply).

Ladies, do you identify with this hypothesis? Are you buying / using more make-up than you were 2 or 3 years ago?
No, pretty much the same.
I don't use a lot of make-up - day-to-day, I only wear mascara, as I have pale eyelashes and look like a rabbit without it. I also have eye liner and eye shadow for more dressy occasions, and lip gloss and touche eclat, but not lipstick, foundation, or concealer. I don't like skin-covering stuff, they make my skin feel clogged and I don't think they look good anyway.
The make-up I do wear is expensive, but lasts a while so my annual expenditure's not great....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Dopester raises good points about impact of recession on make up houses. Presriptives is going (gone?) an others have been rumoured to be looking at cuts.0

I guess on a recessionary note, I've always been alarmed about the amount of money (and time) I spend on shaving product.
This got to the point where recently I popped into one of these skin clinics in the city centre, where a very attractive young woman explained the benefits of IPL (Intense Light something).
It all sounded great, 6 to 10 treatments and I wouldn't have to shave....then came the cost. Ahh, okay, makes the shaving product look reasonable again.
Okay, so it's not makeup, closest I can manage!0 -
Why don't you consider not shaving at all? There are women out there who are rather fond of nice, single men with tidily-clipped beards. I am one of those.0

For some men it is still officially not allowed by employers, for others still its frowned upon. I like a bit of three day stubble, but if DH wanted to grow a beard I'd be a bit upset. I'm really not a fan off them. Or any sort of facial hair that looks like the person has spent a lot of time looking in the mirror for that matter..0 -

I never really bothered about personal facial grooming, until I had to take part in some video teleconf stuff with an American parent company. Apparently, some comments came back not only about an unshaven look, but also the fact that my eyebrows were quite unruly!
I was surprised, but since then I occasionally get my 'brows tidied at a salon in the village. It seems our American cousins are a bit fussy on image.0
