I love the idea of fishing...and thats probably where it ends...

I used to fish. As a young person I was a very naughty poacher and, while I had my dog, very good at it too. She was trained to let me know if anyone else was about, so it was impossible for baliffs or keepers to creep up on me. Unfortunately, about a month after she died, I was cornered by two keepers and my piscatorial fun & games were over.:o

As an adult, I found angling knowledge very handy when I applied for my first teaching post. My parents always told me how fishing would get me nowhere, but how wrong they were. The Head turned out to be a complete angling nut, so the job was more or less sewn-up before the interviews commenced! :D

Once teaching, the Head turned this poacher into a gamekeeper by recommending me to his fairly exclusive club. I couldn't really afford it, but it was the one luxury I allowed myself. Whilst a member, I sometimes had to ask rogues to leave our well-stocked waters, but it was always done in a pleasant way and they never argued.

When DW and I were married in '81, the first casualty was the fishing club membership, which was over £100 - quite a lot in those days, especially for someone without any mod cons in their house! However, at that time two entrepreneurs in Bath had filled the old outdoor Cleveland Baths with rainbow trout, so I'd go there occasionally and fish a few out, paying afterwards at the weigh-in. For DD1's christening, I went down there with some special bait and caught one of the wily old 5 pounders, which was far too canny to fall for the usual fare. It made a great centrepiece at the buffet. :)

Apart from surprising the kids by whipping quite large wrasse out of the sea in Cornish coves, I've done no real fishing for years. However, my Googling has recently included the phrase 'telescopic fishing rod,' so who knows?;)

STOP PRESS: They are hoping to reinstate the Cleveland Baths as a swimming pool, though I liked them best as a pond!

If you are lucky you can be a bit cave man/woman enjoy a catch and feel good that you put it back with minimal upset to the fish. :)

The coarse fish I caught were always returned immediately, and TBF the trout were not.....er.....'upset' too much!!! :o

you don't want to be going to Hampstead Ponds - it's full of people that are left footed who drink ginger beer. not that i have anything against it but it's notorious for it.

on 2nd thoughts it may be an extremely safe place for you to to go to

Overrated. Ate out in a so called genuine Italian restaurant there one night. I ordered spag bol, pizza with garlic filled crust and a carafe of their best Lambrini and apparently my knowledge of Italian cuisine proved too much for their kitchen.

    It was rubbish.

    I can't remember proper name...Lido? probably.

Best entrance is the one at south end green for them.

I have never seen ginger beer here, but there are some rum'uns. and some perfectly nice people. :)

I like Tuscany, but, this is so terrible to admit...I was a little bot disappointed with the countryside. :o
