because we've been offered one for which the only cost would be flights/car hire...:o
If its any comfort, it will feel a bit like devon to DH as its in Tuscany....
We had a lovely holiday in Tuscany, stayed in a villa near Asciana near to Sienna. Lovely countryside, amazing views, lots of wine and not many people.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I'm a huge fan of wild swimming...its my favourite sort...not that keen on pools tbh...too..people-y. I love rivers.
My Dad lived near Hampstead Ponds as a lad, swimming there just after World War 1.
I'm afraid I only went to free night time rock concerts on the Heath, but I remember being up there, watching the satellites going over and seeing what looked like the whole of London spread out below. It was a magical summer '68.
We had an official swimming place in the river down here in Devon when I was a lad, but it closed due to the activities of older teenagers than me, who organised a 'club' in the changing facilities. I know folk were doubly shocked because Convent girls were involved. This was just after the Lady Chatterley trials, so public opinion encouraged the Council to bulldoze the wooden huts flat.
With the main swimming place gone, my age group swam in a deepish pool further upstream. It was while swimming there that I found my Virgin Mary/St Christopher double lucky charm that's gone with me everywhere for the past 50 years. Wasn't too lucky for the person who lost it in the water there though!0
