I've just cancelled my contract with O2, I want PAYG because I don't use my mobile very often, any idea who I should go with? I already have a phone so only need a sim. MTIA.

i was in the same situation. i changed to 3. if you top-up £10 every 3 months you get 600 free texts0

There is no contest for price - Vectone http://www.vectonemobile.co.uk/default.aspx?lang=en
5p call/sms versus Asda at 8p/4p. On the T-Mobile network. SIMs readily available in London or from the company online. £5 extra if you transfer your number.
Some great international rates as well.
I've had one for a few weeks and no problems.0 -

This sounds like what I'm after, I cancelled the contract today it ends 25th December and I told O2 to just make the phone PAYG after contract finishes, can I still transfer my no or is it too late now? My OH cancelled his also so we'll both be interested in this. Thanks for your help.0 -

You can't port a number across from contract to PAYG on the same network. if you want to keep it, port it to another network before 25/12 on PAYG, then back to Orange on PAYG.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I'm a bit tired tonight so forgive me if I'm being a bit slow but where does Orange come into the equation?
It doesn't, unless you want to keep the same number on Orange PAYG.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Get your PAC code which is valid for 30 days. When you want to transfer, all you do (after getting your Vectone SIM) is to send a free SMS to Vectone and they will SMS you back within 2 days saying all is done.
Remember to copy all contact details on your current SIM to your phone as the UK networks are apparently sending out some code which deletes all on your SIM.
Link to transfer is here http://www.vectonemobile.co.uk/offers/extra-credit.aspxText your (PAC Code) followed by your (old mobile No.) from your new Vectone number to: 07574 212 555.
SMS to 07574212555 from your Vectone Mobile number will be free of charge0 -

That is my issue completely. I use Skype for all my overseas calls via subscription and now have a 3 mobile for Skype on the go.
I liked the sound of a £10 a month SIM only deal but I don't send many SMS (who are these people sending 100s a month ???) and I just don't use £10 of calls which is 200 minutes at 5p a minute every month.
I guess if I was working in an office away from home I'd consider it as I'm sure I'd use more then but for now, Vectone it is.0 -
Vectone 5p a minute is only a promotional offer that ends on 31/12/09
Newcomer GiffGaff backed by O2 www.giffgaff.com looks interesting. Includes free internet browsing for 6 months, and free calls to freephone numbers amongst other things.0 -

No it is not. That is there is no price hike after 31/12/09.
I accept that there are no post 31/12/09 dates or prices but their whole business model fails or succeeds on that 5p a call. It is their effective trademark and as such, I'll bet it will be as permanent as anything in the mobile world is.
I don't have to defend Vectone but you are scaremongering. Even if a network changed their prices, you could just switch the next day and just where are the post 2009 prices for Vectone ? Nowhere.0
