SAMSUNG PS42B430 42 inch Plasma TV HD Ready Freeview
I just got one of these, £399.99 plus £39.95 for the 5 year guarantee.I don't know anything about the technical abilities, but the website will tell you more.
I do know that it looks great and I think it is brilliant. Before I only had a 26" crt tv, which blew up.I don't think that the general user, like myself, would really notice the difference in the technical ability of these tvs, although I do have a LCD tv in the bedroom and you cannot see the picture clearly from certain angles, whereas with the plasma you can see that from any angle.
I bought this TV about 6 months ago (and it cost alot more for me), and its AMAZING.
The SD picture is outstanding and the HD picture is as good as any panny i have seen.0 -
So why do Panasonic still warn you in the manuel not to use black bars as they can cause screen burn?
So theyve covered all bases
Screen burn actually DOES happen for the first few months. But then the WHOLE screen does over time and the burn dissapears
Its why people use lower settings for the 'run in' period ~ so that it doesnt burn a little here and there first
Not entirely sure what they mean by 'black bars' though!:idea:0 -
I suppose "black bars" are when you watch a movie or program which does not fill the screen, and you end up with a black bar at the top and bottom of the screen.
I have recorded a movie on freeview, it has the 2 black bars, but the advertisings are filling the screen up.
At least that's how I understand it.0 -

Got my plasma TV, I could not believe how heavy it was, but I did manage to get it on my unit. I am very happy with it so far:D, the picture is great:D, I haven't changed any settings yet.
Thanks to all who posted on my thread.0 -
So help me if i see 'plasmas need regassed' again!
Buy your TV based on picture quality, not energy consumption. And please, when comparing energy consumption, compare on the same size of TV! Whatever the technology, the bigger it is the more it uses.
AnthonyUK is probably talking about a 10yr old plamsa screen that has sky sports news on for 12 hrs a day. That will cause screen burn on a plasma or CRT, but not an LCD.
The 400w-500w ratings thrown around for plasmas are maximums, and they're much higher than LCD's maximums. This makes plasmas look like they use a lot more, whereas, on average, depending on what you're watching (darker uses less power on plasma, LCD has a constant light on), plasma uses slightly more. This is offset easily by the (in my opinion) better picture of the plasma.0 -
Hi all,
I don't know much about tvs.
I went to Richer Sounds this evening and got some info.
He seemed to recommend the LG 32ld690. It's 32" for 399quid 439.90 with 5yr warranty. They seemed to have mainly LG so that was what he showed me. It was the Swiss Cottage one.
What are your thoughts please?
Can you recommend another 32" tv? I dont play video games and don't want to spend more than 350 quid, 400 tops.
Thanks.0 -
Plasmas can suffer screenburn from television logos/graphics/extended use of games consoles etc with permanent shadowing onscreen and they have to be regassed or thrown away;LCD's last longer and don't suffer screenburn and are cheaper.
LCDs cheaper?
there wasnt an LCD near the price i paid for my 50" plasma
screenburn isnt an issue really
anyone thats using static images a lot can use built in tools like orbitors or colour/white washes
regass? I have a 5 year warrenty. it will be old tech by then and most likely replaced before that0 -
Which is better LCD or LED?
I'm in the market for a 32" for not more than 350, 300quid prefered.0
