LCD or Plasma TV?

Just a wee hijack of the thread.
Are LED TVs worth it?
How do you configure LCDs properly?
LEDs ~ for the same money no. A similar priced LCD tends to be better quality.
As for calibrating ~ thats quite a long and hard answer
Basics are setup black levels (brightness and backlight), white levels (Contrast and backlight) using some setup pictures, and switch off ALL the 'processing' crap they put on them (contrast enhance, black enhance, AI, 'smooth flow', live colour and all the other silly names they create)
For true calibration the tv needs an ISF mode (Calibrating Red, Green, and Blue through the range), and a meter and software
I personally use the EYE ONE meter (Just got it), and this software and setup disc (The software is truly awesome for free) ~

I wouldnt touch the Toshiba with a bargepole
Is Toshiba a bad brand? I am looking at Toshiba because I have a DVD/HDD recorder of that brand and my big CRT box is a Toshiba, and has been working faultlessly for years. Obviously now it is a different technology, so I am open to any suggestions.0 -
Cools cheers for that. I fancied the LEDs cos they're thin with a capital "Thin As F*@$!"
I'll have to do some reading since I know next to sweet FA about TV's.0 -

Toshiba used to have some of the best CRT sets going
But times have changed and Toshiba are (generally) lagging behind
Heres a review of the 42" one (You can expect similar for the 37") ~

To give you some idea of how much better this tv is, Tesco have it up for 900 quid!

Dont get me wrong. theyre generally very good tvs. But your paying a premium just to get a thinner tv with a 'not as good' picture compared to a similar priced LCD:idea:0 -

So buy an LCD now and an LED later?
Rik if you were gonna buy a TV with a £700 roof on the finances for it what would you get?
I say 700 cos I generally save up and buy but for a reall good TV I'd consider a finance deal.0 -
Sorry school boy error, 32 or 37 (if cheap enough).0

You wont find anything NEAR as good as that for the price of 600 quid. You would genuinely have to pay over 1k before anything comes close (And even then it would be negligible)
It has better black levels than most tvs. High contrast ratio (I measured mine to be higher than my dads A500 Pioneer kuro!). VERY good scaler (For watching SD content). Awesome graphics engine (so no 'smearing' or digital artifacting of any kind that ive seen). Enough inputs to cover all your possible needs. FULL HD (Obviously) etc etc etc:idea:0
