Then lots of rest after this weekJust guess Im going all out cos its been so long since ive had chance to make proper money and everything has been temporary.
Hope everyones been having a great week, if not TGIF tomorrow.0 -
Hope everything's ok Needhelpsaving - hugs to you.
£300 for a day's work  I think I'm in the wrong job!! Haha.
Thank you about the bonus...I'm pleased but we had a sales meeting at work and some of the 'high flyers' have been awarded bonuses of £20k plus, so I'm very much at the low end at my place, but never mind, free money is free money in my eyes so I can't grumble!
Savings won't do as well as I'd hope in January as I've just booked a spa day with some girlfriends. We got discount though so it was 'cheap' but still just over £100. I haven't treated myself in a while though so I don't mind and am very much looking forward to it!0 -

Don't play yourself down Timbear - it's not free money, it's a gift beacuse you have done such a good job!!! And there is no incentive to keep saving if you don't treat yourself now and again, it's about balance.
Things are looking better my end, but it's gonna be a long road as my dad was in real trouble money wise and only asked for help just before it got really badI just hope he learns from this x

Hi ladies, I am back. I was going to post yesterday but the forum was down.
I have just done a MASSIVE clean around the house and then I said to myself that once that was done and I've had some tea, I was going to sit down and catch up on this thread.
It's great that there are loads of new people on this thread - it's brilliant.
Timbear- I have also got some beauty treatments booked this weekend. This is a treat for me. I know that I could have saved the money if I didn't book them but like needhelpsaving says - it is a treat and you must treat yourself once in a while. What does your spa day include. I am just having a lovely pedicure and massage - what a treat - can't waitI was going to try and save £166 this month (to bring me to the £500 mark) but really I can only afford £100 (and maybe some small extra amounts during Feb) but £100 is still £100 and to me it is a lot of money. Timbear - that is also brilliant about your bonus - I got quite a good one last year but this year we have been told that it will be very little (if at all) - to me a bonus is a bonus and every small bit helps.
This morning I have had massive tidy out of my cupboard - was getting really fed up of seeing so much stuff that I do not wear. I put loads in a bag that I will take to the charity shop at the weekend. Really I wanted to sort out my work clothes - so now I have kept all the things that I wear all the time and put in the bag the things I haven't work for ages. Less is more is the way to go I think. I also sorted out my shoes in "work" and "going out". It feels really good to be really organised.
Anyway like I said before this week I will be writing a cheque for £100 towards my savings and then really trying to cut down on my food shopping. I'm aiming to try and get my food shopping bill down in February. There is only me and my husband so it's not too bad but I can always do better. I think I might set myself a target in February and keep a diary on this board. Anyone else want to join??
Anyway, good luck with your savings and having a fab week.
I was a '75 baby so a bit older than some of you guys.
Emma x
PS. Becky - work on boiler starts next week .....Mortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0 -
Thanks guys.
EC12345, it's a full day at a health spa, full use of the swimming pool and steam rooms etc, three course lunch and I'm having an hour's full body massage. Bliss!
I would like to join in with the reducing food spend thing with you! Like you, I only have to buy for myself and my OH but always seem to spend more than I plan to each month! I do one big monthly shop for my cupboard things and freezer stuff, then top up in the week for fresh milk etc. How does everyone else do it?0 -
Hi all
Hope you are all well.
Emma, hope the work with the boiler is going well and well done for sorting out the cupboard.
TimBear, congratulations to your bonus. Not a bad start for 2011.
Emma & TimBear I am up for cutting down the cost on food for February. I have already decided that February will be a month when I am eating up all those extra portions that are in the freezer and also up some of the frozen meat in there. Recently we have been lazy with food at home and have been using pizzas and ready made meals.
Needhelpsaving, hope things are better with your dad now.
Jennie-1987, I am pleased to hear that it sounds like your new job is going well.
Here things are not too bad, still finding it hard though to get back into a routine after Christmas & New Year. Any suggestions on how you do this is greatly appreciated. Needhelpsaving, I think what I have changed this year is to write down a spending budget at the beginning of the month and whatever is left I put into my savings account, previously I used to do this at the end of the month when I had usually spent it all. Another good thing is that shopping doesn't really appeal to me at the moment, I look but have no interest in buying. Also, on Fridays after work I withdraw my spending money to last until the following Friday and that does really help to cut down on wasting money. In February though I will definetely not be able to save as much as in January!
Today I have done the no toiletries challege for a year. £85 saved from using up toiletries and the cabinett is much less cluttered. Emma, how did you get on in the end with this challenge?
Anyway, all the best to you all.
Becky

Hiya!!!
I will apologise now - I am in a very excitable mood today!!!!
Emma - Hope the boiler is going well and well done on the clear out!!!
Becky - wow £85 by using up toilettries that's crazy! Oh, thanks for the tips by the way, I am going to revise my poor version of a budget and try to make it more realistic. I have put £137.19 into my savings yesterday, a random amount but it's a start.
I think I will also start meal planning instead, as I buy things adhoc and then when I get home, don't have a proper meal - whoops!2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
Needhelpsaving,

Hi!,
I am bored at work, so jumped on for a few miinutes. I am going to open 2 savings accounts today; both are passbooks as I contantly empty the electronic access ones. The reason for 2 is that one has a bonus if you make less than 3 withdrawals in a year, the second is my car fund. They have small interest rates, but I don't mind - it's better than having no savings x
I hope you are all well and look forward to hearing what you have been up to xxx2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0
