Thanks Savingwannabe
Hope the building work is back on track now and I am glad it got all sorted. I bet you are looking forward to moving back to your own place again?
I am fine, still feeling tired so am taking it easy this weekend. Off on holiday in 10 days time and really looking forward to that. I cannot wait to start saving in September when I get my first pay as a permanent member of staff. How is your moneysaving going this summer?
I am saving up to my beauty treatment from the £1 challenge I am doing when using up/throwing away beauty products, so far I have got £48 in my pot.
Have a nice weekend.
Becky

Building work is being delayed a bit. Am trying not to panic too much. Am sure it will fall into place eventually.
Exciting news about your holiday. I cannot wait to travel again when i have bought all my furniture.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Hi ladies, great to read your posts.
How is the saving going Becky - did you get all your wages like you said earlier?? Did you manage to save half, that's fab if you did, good for you. Have you been on your holiday yet or are you off soon - where are you off to? I hope it is somewhere hot, the weather here has been terrible lately, I think our summertime is over. Have a great time wherever it is you are off to. THat's only great about your £48 in the post - that is quite a lot of money you know. Every week I have a cash budget just to spend on a few treats - say about £5 or £10 and any money that is left I also put in an old cardboard box. I counted that the only morning and there is £42 - it is the sealed pot challenge from the debt free board (I started it Januart 1 this year) - hoping to get £50 by the end of the year - we are to France in December to visit the christmas markets so am planning on using that to pay for our train fare to get to the Eurostar terminal - I think the train tickets are about £56 from where we live!
Still another week and a half to go before pay day and I tell you, I am absolutely broke... enough for petrol and food shopping and that's it so will be a tough week but this never mind, it's only five days in the grand scheme of it. At the end of August, I will have hit my £3,500 target. What I am going to do is then transfer that money into another savings account and now just leave it and keep it as real emergency money. I am then going to sit down and work out another savings target - not sure yet but maybe trying to save say £500 by the end of the year. I would really like our upstairs bathroom retiling so maybe I might start saving for that - it is not a massive room - but not small so I reckon with all new tiles (it is a white suite so nothing wrong with that) and getting the tiler in would probably be about about £1,500 - so may be that can be my goal to save for.
Savingwannabe - what has happened to all the building work - why did it stop?? I tell you - it is so stressful having people in to work on the house - hopefully everything will get moving again soon - hopefully before Christmas and before the nights start getting shorter.
I know it is still a while to go yet but maybe we should start thinking about saving a bit extra for Christmas - what do you think? May be we could think of a simple challenge and see how far we can get before December 1st - just a bit of fun.
Good luck with your savings ladies. ExMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0 -
Hi Becky and Emma,
My house building project is on it is just that they are not working to the schedule they promised and it may be delayed. I am housesitting for a friend till Friday i hope i am back in by then even if the builders may still be working round me for a few weeks!
I have been spending a fair bit on meals out but i reckon it is cheaper than a trip abroad so i am not beating myself up!
I like the idea of a savings pot for Christmas, i want one for my summer hols next year too!
I will start one when i move back in on Saturday. I have a money pot of change and i will open it up to see how much is inside too!Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Hi SW, great to hear from you.Are you back in the house now? Is the building still going to plan??
Well today I am going to write out a cheque for £80 to post off to the building society and then I will have reached by £3,500 target - :j I am going to keep the money stashed away and start another target - my new one is going to be £500 by the end of December 2010 - like I said before this is going to be for the tiling of our bathroom. Our plumber is coming to do a quick job on Friday and we are going to get a quote of how much he is going to charge - we are thinking of getting it down after Christmas/January/February - so at least I will know what I am aiming for.
Hey Becky, I take it you must be on holiday so when you get back make sure you post to update us on your news.
SW - a pot for summer hols next year is also a fab idea - I am going to use my pot for our train fare when we go France in December - I put another couple of pounds in there the other day so it is slowly mounting up. My aim was £50 by Christmas but hopefully I will do that by the end of September.
Anyway ladies, post soon - Karrie - hope you post soon xMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0 -
It is so nice when you know what you are saving for. Tiling the bathroom will make such an impact. I move back in tomorrow. Builders will be working around me but i must move in as i start work on Friday. I dont know how long it will be till i have computer access but i will post as soon as i can.
I am poor - not a penny to my name - but it is nice to think that eventually my house will be safe and happy and all pretty too. Hooray. It has taken 3 years to save for i am sooo pleased. Of course, i will be crying tomorrow as only two rooms are nearly ready and they need to be cleaned and painted but i am enjoying it for now!!!!
I saw my dear friend Penny and we are saving to go on hols starting next month. Such a lot of money but i have never been to America and i must. We are going to stalk film stars!!!! tee hee!

Hi everyone - just a quick update, well I have reached by £3,500 target - in fact it is £3,502 - am very pleased - this is our emergency money (me and my husband have joint savings which we do not touch - so this will be for emergencies around the house!!)
My new target is £500 by the end of December - although I cannot start this until pay day in September. Have had a bit of a nightmare week to be honet with things breaking - iron, hairdryer and toothbrush so have spent about £100 replacing all of these - oh well, these things happen I supposeIt just means I have absolutely no money until pay day in September which is still about 4 weeks - I have a pedicure and haircut booked which I have budgeted for but apart from that there will be no extras. I am going to sort through my cupboards in a bit and organise some of my shoes/clothes for work to see exactly what I have got - as I was going to buy a couple of new things this month.
On the plus side, I have been really good with my food shopping this week - so am really pleased - hopefully this Saturday's bill should also be quite low. There are only two of us in our house but we do like our treats and nice food. For the next few weeks, I am really going to cut down - I bet we wont really anything anyway.
Hey Kit, America is fab - we have been quite a few times - you will enjoy it. In 2012 we are also planning to go again - we want to go to Vegas and LA/Hollywood. I am also planning on seeing as many film stars and visiting all the famous bars. Like I said, we are not planning to go until 2012 but next year we will start saving for it. How much are you planning to stash away?
Anyway update soon everyone - am now going to clean kitchen floor :rotfl: xxMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0 -
Hi Emma and Kit
Hope you are both well. Kit have you settled back into to your "old" home yet? Hope it is going well having the builders working at home. America sounds fab. Where are you going?
Emma, well done for reaching your £3500 target for this year. Hope you will soon reach your target for the tiling in your bathroom. France in December sounds great. I love going to Christmas markets. Hope you enjoyed your haircut and pedicure. I am planning to sort through my wardrobes too to sort what clothes and shoes I have got. Did you manage to find something that you had completely forgotten about?
This week was my first week back at work after our holiday and it's been really tough to get back into the routine again. We rented a lovely cottage in Sweden, 5 meters away from a lake during our holiday and it was lovely and very peaceful. Next time we go away will probably be next year. I have now been working in my new job for around 6 weeks and so far it has been really good but a lot of new things to remember. I got my 8 week pay on the 31/8 which felt great. I am planning on setting aside £350 this month into my savings account. From this month I have started to set aside £110 every month for the water/gas and electricity bill to avoid any nasty surprises when they turn up. This money will also go towards my quarterly haircut. Our freezer is full so am planning to use up that so our food bill should be low for the next 2 months or so. I have just finished paying of my part payment for a dentist treatment that I had in the spring so I shall be putting aside that money for my savings account.
I am hoping that we will continue to have nice weather for some time so that I can continue to dry our clothes outside.
Have a nice weekend and good luck with saving money.
Becky
