Apprentices aren't meant to have specific jobs, they are meant to be learning the trade.

Which is what I said he was doing.

For the love of god, this thread had gone off the page - are you bored or something?

So if he is learning and not doing specific jobs, how can he be made redundant from learning?

So because he is learning he should be able to keep his job? should that be the case for all Employers then?

It costs over £250 per week for us to teach him a trade. We don't just have an endless supply of money believe it or not and sometimes there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough.

As I said I have spoken to ACAS - with thanks to the links from some people who replied to this thread. They have told me that I can make him redundant and I have taken the first steps to doing that.

It must be very easy when you are not an Employer to sit back and make accusations about the 'big bad Employer' but try to remember that I am just a normal person who happens to have started a business (and worked extremely hard on the way) and trying my best in what I do.

If you have a grudge against a previous Employer for some reason then take it out on them, not me. I am not the baddy here - if I was he wouldn't have had a job in the first place would he?
