  • Does anyone know of an alternative to using the banks? The truth is, we don't have a choice. There's nowhere to go. A human cannot live without a bank account. They're in control. I can't work without having a bank account because my employer wouldn't be able to pay me, I can't pay my bills without a bank account because my creditors are all over the country.

I don't want to use a bank anymore but I am forced to!!! Surely this is an infringement on my human rights.

Yes, totally lost touch. Yes it's "unfair" I agree the charges do seem overly high in some instances, but it is all laid out quite clearly, and it is easy to avoid excessive charges if you don't borrow money without asking permission first.

Those robbing bankers are charging me an interest on my mortage. I don't care what the contract says, I want my money back.

What's a mortage...you don't care what the contract says that you signed up to...really??

    now you ARE being pedantic.....

and if it so pleases you, i will remove the miss spelt word touche from my last post!!......

Yes I was and am again; I didn't say touche was misspelled, I said it was mis-used ;)

O.T. Why won't this site allow me to put the ´ over the e ??

Shocked and disgusted about this, can't get my head around it.

After going through the courts earlier in the year for something totally different, and seeing how honest people get treated, I should have seen then that the law in this country is a complete and total !!!!.

'Honest' people don't overdraw their accounts without authority. The Supreme Court should be thanked on behalf of all those people who run their accounts properly and now might be able to continue with free banking. I'm over the moon!!
  • martin, and all the posters moaning about the decision - get over it. when you open an account you enter into a contract with bank, part of which is not giong overdrawn without arrangement or writing cheques without the coverng funds n your account.

The charges you will pay for breaching these terms of the contract are also set out. if a genuine mistake is made then by all means appeal - for deliberate acts (or frequent acts) just get over it. I am one of the 4 out of 5 people who manage my account properly and therefore dont pay overdraft charges etc. Why should i subsidise those who cant be bothered to manage their accounts properly.

There are what i consider libeloous posts in soe of the comments and frankly i think this sites credibility is undermined by the support given to those who try to spend more than they have available.

It would be useful if you could point out the statute which says that you have a human right not to have a bank account ;)

that makes 90%...but the court ruling said only 70% do...?
  • God it's getting tedious, all these new users crawling out of the wood work.

Don't worry, there is still a lot that we can do to reclaim our bank charges, and we'll be doing that even when you've all crawled back under the stone from which you came from :)
