Ok il go and have a little research now. Thanks for that. Do you think since im dealing with such a small amount(compared to most it seems) i should just stick to the 1 fund? What would you suggest putting away?

Well im investing for hopefully a bit of growth in my money, i find if i have my money in cash(sitting in a bond or isa or simular) im alot more likely to spend it when i really dont need to. If i had it in something like a fund id be alot more likely to leave it where it is and check up on its progression every so often while learning about all the markets for when iv got alot more disposable income available to me. Really im hoping put it away and with some drip feeding and a couple more £1k investments into other funds, have about £5-6k tied up in funds hoping for more growth than the measly 3% most banks offer, but while understanding theres a risk i could lose a few % aswel.

Thanks for your help so far.
With £3k You should probably look at at least 3 funds, with £1000 in each. That way you can spread the risk a little.

Targeting very high returns does mean that you could suffer very large drops which take years to recover from, so bear that in mind before you just pick the best performing funds over the last X years. Think carefully about what you want this money for and what it would mean to you if in, say, 3 years you had less than you do now.

Maybe go half dripped into this and keep the other half cash? Want to get ready and some cash stashed away and have some wealth soon, i know im only 18 but i think the sooner this comes the more il enjoy life as its 1 thing i want more than anything. I currently have about £800 disposable income a month, which with payrises at work should go up nearly £250 this summer so at least £1,000 a month there to be invested and hopefully turned into a little bit more. Overtime at work covers all non expected expenses and the odd night out(this isnt included in disposable income) Just want to do something with my money and not waste it and have nothing to show for it.

A question you should ask yourself is, can I afford to loose £3k if in 12 months time my £3k invested is worth ZERO?

    This is your risk scale.

maybe you need to consider other legal ways to get this 12% + return?

I do buying and selling of new items, I do not even touch them. Just list on ebay, they sell and I get them shipped to the winning bidder.

30% profit even alfter all ebay and paypal fees.

I have just started selling on ebay, but can normaly do 3 sets per month. Not many in many sellers eyes, but my example links in with your figures.

And dont go getting ideas and copying my sale:money:

In fact I am deleting it above.

Dont worry i wasnt meaning copying i meant simular as in i meant in line with your figures. I dont know what i could sell on ebay that could make me money, maybe buying cars at local auction and selling on ebay.

  • My mate buys and sells cars. Buys from auction and then puts them straight on ebay. Minium he makes per car is £200.
  • rictus, disregard all the investment stuff and go to the Gambling Introductory Offers board. Doubling your money within a year (with almost no risk if you understand it all perfectly) would not be out of the question if you have some time to spare.
