Edit: I understand now what you mean - sorry! It's likely you will get a surge with most appliances with low-voltage inputs too, if you connect them to the power supply with the power supply plugged in.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
I agree with gromituk - the power connector at the back of the box should not really used to disconnect the supply - despite anything Sagem says.
The box uses a very small low voltage power socket to connect the external power supply. At the low voltage used, these boxes will use far more current than charging a mobile phone and a spark can sometimes be observed when connecting with the power on. There's absolutely no risk of a shock at this voltage, but switching on at the wall last will ensure that there is no risk of damaging the connector on the back of the box.
If anyone's interested, a user manual for these models can be found here

I have two Sagem freeview boxes, one is the older, bigger silver version which when they brought online a load of new chanels it didn't find them but Sagem replaced it free of charge after I emailed them.
I also have this small one which works perfectly well with an inside aerial and I have had no problems of it locking etc0 -

Both - its stuck and neither the tv or remote vol switches will change it - so I was hoping to use the freeview unit to control it?0 -
If you get volume from it at the moment then I would assume you could use this box to increase/decrease volume. I know I have my tv's set at a volume but I increase/decrease volume via the remote that comes with this freeview box.
I hasten to add - i'm not a tekkie, so if anyone knows different feel free to correct me!
