  • Thats Novembers overpayment gone through bringing us down to £13,220. Next week we will be out of the TEENS

Next month we will be opening and counting our coin pot which is used for saving 1/2/5/20p's and using as an additional OP for the mortgage. Last year this made £215 so hoping for a similar amount this year.

Most of the Xmas presents have been bought, only a couple to buy so thats another yearly expense almost out the way.

Car is in for a service and MOT this Friday, needs a couple of tyres, (touch wood!) it does not need anything else.

    Cheers,
    Jock :)

  • Well my car got through its MOT but needed a little bit of work. Both front track rod ends were shot which affected front tyre wear and explained the occational knock on loose surfaces, these needed replaced along with three tyres. I knew two tyres were on the limit however a third was measured to be just above the minimum and would need replaced sooner rather than later so decided to replace for peace of mind over the winter period. The tyres have lasted very well so not too fussed over the additional cost. An interim service was done at the same time which pushed the price up a bit however we wont need to spend as much next year.

All Xmas presents now bought so no more large expenses for 2011.

On another plus side we opened and counted our 2011 coin pot at the weekend which totalled £210. This was made up of £170 in 20p’s, £25 in 5p’s, £9 in 2p’s and £6 in 1p’s. To this we added £110 accumulated from our 2 Bank of Scotland reward accounts (free £5 each per month) a £50 cheque from Lloyds for switching house insurance and finally a £5 scratch card win. The sum of £375 was paid into the mortgage yesterday as a further overpayment.

This plus our regular mortgage payment for December has brought our mortgage balance down to £12,280 taking us out of the teens!

1 more fixed mortgage OP going in at the end of this month which will be the last payment for 2011.

  • Been a while so about time I did an update. :)

Its been a bit hectic at the start of the year and we didn't get off to a good start with high winds at the start of January causing a fair bit of roof damage, several ridge tiles came flying off.....just missing our and the neighbours cars. We decided to pay the cost of fixing this ourselves rather than go through the insurance as this would have increased our premiums for years to come. £300 gone in a flash.

Then the OH decided we really needed a new sofa in the January sales, it was less than half price so after several days of nagging I eventually caved in and we now have it on order, another £299 that will cost us. Our old one (which is perfectly fine) will go to one of our friends who are struggling a bit and could do with another one so it'll be good to help them out.

On the plus side sold a couple of items on ebay totalling £52 so that will go in as an overpayment later.

So after our January overpayment we are now down to £10,765 and and have started counting down the days (see updated sig) till we become mortgage free.......280 days at the moment

  • Februaries mortgage payment came off this morning bringing our balance down to £10,200.

276 days to go till mortgage freedom :)

  • Well the new sofa arrived and it looks very nice in our living room so feel a bit better about the unexpected expense. Old sofa was lifted by friends at the weekend (gave them for free) and they are over the moon with it.

The OH has requested an early spring clean / tidy up so spent majority of weekend painting our bathroom / kitchen and master bedroom, taking things to the skip etc. Couple of unused items will go on ebay so hoping to make a bit extra cash to go towards the OP.

A couple of weeks and we will break through the £10k barrier!

    266 days to go :D
