Mummysaver - thanks for asking - it wasn't nice but is done now, we are frantically looking for other work so they can do back to their 5 day asap.

(((hugs))) for JC, Lowesy & anyone else who needs one.

Halight - good to hear from you again. :hello:
  • Hi Guys!

Well things are still quite raw here atm. Just to top it off, I had a nasty text from my sister late Sunday night. I was a good girl and didnt reply as I would have said something very horrible back and wont sink to her level. My mum is priorty atm and she needs to realise that the world doesnt revolve around her!

Anyway, nurse has been this morning, so pain is a bit more bearable now:D think everything is flared with all going on, but need to try not get stressed with everything.

OH got some lovely fresh steak and kidney (500g) yesterday reduced from £4.95 to 95p, so am making that into a meat and potatote pie tomorrow...hopefully as I have never done it before. Any pointers would be appreciated. I was going to fry a couple of onions first in the pan, then put the meat in and sprinkle some flour in, then pop in the SC with oxo/stock for a few hrs then put the pastry top on later...would that work..or is there an easier way:confused:...I'm feeding neighbours too with it, so could I stretch with mushrooms too?

OH also got beef olives ??? they are top steak with a sausage and stuffing inside with the steak wrapped around it. Not seen them before, but they were reduced from over £2.50 each to 45p each. Bread was also reduced to 10p a loaf. Savoy cabbage, carrots, apples and baking pots are also 30p a packet this week at Morrisons...good value for fruit and veg. He got loads and the total was under £7.

My friend bought me an E-cloth for glass as I was moaning about the cabinets and she swore by them and they are easy to use too, so she got me one of the glass/polishing one and a general one. I tried on a small piece of glass with just a spray of water and its brilliant!! Can be washed 300 times.

OH has painted the front step and windowsill this morning.

    I am rambling now...sorry.

Thanks for all the lovely messages.

    Afternoon all ;)

Having a productive day chez Thrift. Seem to be having an endless stream of parcels delivered at the moment. Oh the blessed convenience of internet Christmas shopping. Nearly finished it now, just trying to hide everything where it can't be found.

One of the parcels was for me- a pullman bread tin which I got off ebay. I was a bit taken aback to see Malaysian stamps on it. Must go and check my account and see if I've paid an exorbitant amount in p&p  Anyway it is huge, about twice as big as a 2lb loaf tin with a lid so that you can make square loaves. It is in the oven as I type. I hope I've put enough dough in for it to work. ETA: The loaf is a sucess but not quite as square as I would like. It needs a little more dough to fill the corners out. It is certainly more sandwich shaped then my usual loaves. When it is completely cool I will slice it all and freeze ready for sandwich making. The tin is like the one below.

    front.jpg

So I've made bread-2 normal sized loaves and one big sandwich loaf. I've given up on the sour dough bread btw-we decided that although it was good we preferred my yeast bread.

I've also made a big bowl of my freezer veg hash which has used up the tired leeks, celery and carrots languishing at the bottom of my fridge plus some onions and peppers. I've set some aside for tea tonight. I'm making pork meatballs using a lb of pork mince and a lb of sausagemeat plus some of the veg hash and lots of smoked pimeton. I'm making a tomatoey stew to go with them which will have more veg hash, defrosted halloween pumpkin, carrots and swede.

I'm also going to make some chicken liver pate and my mincemeat later today.

Breakfast was porridge and fruit for the kids and yogurt, honey and nuts for me.

Lunchboxes have pittas with hm hummus and grated carrot, grapes and flapjacks.

I had leftover tuna-cheddar chowder and a satsuma. And some chocolate:D
  • Hi all :D Today we are keeping warm old style by leaving the heating off (because the boiler is broken:rolleyes: ) and chopping firewood ... will light the stove after the school run because I haven't yet worked out how to keep the fire 'in' without constantly feeding it.
Am busy tackling the budget-monster today & trying to see exactly where all our money is disappearing (suspect the answer will mostly lie in receipts for crafty stuff!)
  • Hi everyone..

Just diving in to say that my laptop had the blue screen of death so my posting will be restricted til it's fixed. I do have the old computer fired up but it's so slow I might as well get a black marker pen and just write what I want on the screen.

Halight - great to see you posting again
    Littlebrownfrog - hi honey!

I hope everyones day is going well - I am about to make some ham and pickle toasties in the George Foreman for lunch.. weather is foul again.

    Hi everyone,

Been Christmas shopping this morning-I only got one!Just couldnt see anything I fancied for DB and his partner.I have agreed with my friend to do a pared down pressie as she is skint. She was made redundant and is doing a part time temp job that doesnt pay well.I said not to bother at all,but she didnt want to so we've said we'll do nominal gifts.I'd bought a few little things for a hamper for her and her partner,so I think I'll make a shopping bag and put the things in there.I could make some cookies and put those in too-I got some cellophane gift bags last year and never used them.I've got another friend I could do this for as well.

I've been buying bits and bats for DSons, toiletries, socks etc to open but they prefer to have the cash as their main pressie.

Right, better get to my 'sewing room',got a couple of hours peace as DH and DS2 have gone to look at a job,and DS1 has to go out too shortly. Its rare for me to have the house to myself at the mo.Tea is turkey escalopes with Cajun spices,so very quick.

Halight- great to see you back,we've all missed you,but understand you might not always feel like posting.Glad the twins are still doing well :j

Meanmarie-I wouldnt say I've completely 'mastered' crochet yet,but I've bought a ball of pretty lilac yarn to practice with this morning.Thought it might encourage me.My flowers still don't look like the ones on the link Thrifty posted ,(thank-you) (for Attic24) but I'll keep on at it.If at first you don't succeed......

Hope everyone is doing OK,(((Hugs if you are poorly or down))) x

    Afternoon all.

JC that sounds really horrible; (((HUG)))

PenPin and Molly ((((HUGS)))) for both of you as well.

Halight lovely to see you back - I've missed your posts.

I'm late again today - been bottling and labelling 2 demijohns of elderberry wine, and the colour cartridge on my printer decided to run out, so I had to change it. Nothing hard there, you'd think - except that I have to get down on the floor to do it, and having got down there, couldn't get up again!

My back is now totally killing me; however, I've blagged Mr LW into doing egg'n'chips for our dins, when he gets in.;)

Mr LW has got his rota for December - he's on call for the 4 days over Xmas; the "on call" payment will be very useful as he's decided to purchase us a sauna.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
