Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 24th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS chums.

SunnyGirl - my OH says that smilie you used looks just like me as I have long eyelashes and am never without my lipgloss.. (though I did point out I don't wear red!)giggle.gif
nmlc - Sorry to hear your dad is not well hon - lots of healing vibes coming his way
Caterina - nice to see you posting and hope your day went well
celyn - wow, Prague.. only seems a few days since you were in France but I know it's longer than that. I am green with envy, Prague is a beautiful place and I hope you have a great time.
Smoky - Well done on putting up the curtain rail honey.
Ladyshopper - So sorry to hear of your exH's Nan passing away.
Rachel - Hope your mouth feels better soon
Bitsy - I love that twirly smilie too
PippaS - I just highlight the smilie, right click and hit copy and then put the cursor on the page where I want it and click paste. But I do know others have to use the more circuitous route. But yes, Sunny is right, I AM the smilie pusher on the Daily Thread... it was all quiet til I posted the link on the board... giggle.gif

Ok, I have been very quiet and hidden my light under a bushel, but Redruby and Aussie? I had all my presents sorted by September except the parents and in-laws and theirs arrived with the Thorntons’ order so now they are all wrapped and stored away. As the Americans would say... 'Natch!'.. :rotfl::rotfl:

The weather has been appalling here for four days here and I am so glad we live on a hill. It does mean that planting garlic or tidying the garden isn't going to be possible and no doubt again today. I don’t mind being cold but the wet is not conducive to happy gardening. I have a huge pile of bulbs to plant too but really beginning to think I may well just give in

coffee1.gifAm feeling really tired today so if Tris doesn't come online by 0430 I will outtahere.gifand go back to bed.

WM is on and I am trying to decide what to have for lunch and dinner. I think ham and salad sandwiches for lunch and dinner will be smoked fish and green beans with mash. Something easy anyway. Am planning to do some baking tomorrow cos the home help is here to do the oven bit and make a fish pie too I hope, but we do have to go to the Drs mid afternoon so that might cramp my style a little.

It's my birthday soon and a group of for friends that were going to come to dinner have cancelled on me.. they had a chance to go abroad for some Christmas shopping HSsnowmen.gif.(a shameless excuse to use a Christmas smilie now the duck has been broken) My best friend and her OH can still come down for a meal so it will still be a good evening.

Anyway - to everyone who is poorly - get well soon. I hope today is the very best it can be for you. With love, light and big squishy hugs to all.

    G'day everyone,

Another scorcher here. It's summer and it's my turn to moan. :p I've had a pretty good day so far. Girlfriend, DD, DS1's new g'friend & DH all called so had a nice morning of chatting on the phone. Exhausting. :D Made a slice & did some work on the trip. I gave the room downstairs a clean out after lunch and put new sheets on the bed. I've then been watering in the yard.

DH home a bit later today. After reading that Ruby has caught up I was going to do all my Christmas Cards today but I"ll put that on tomorrow's to-do list. :D I won $29 at Bingo last night. I should be so lucky. :p

Haribo What can I say. You either have it or you don't.
bargainbird I'm waiting in anticipation. :D

Hope those effected by flooding are coping well. <hugs> to those that need them. Enjoy your day. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Scorcher???? Wet and windy here and set to get cooler this week, down to 6 or so. We will feel it with the wind.
Got the car fixed and passed the MOT, cost me more than expected, so a bit annoyed that my budget will have to be re-jigged. But we can always say it could be worse.

Last day of work today and then 3 days off. Ice skating at Eden will figure somewhere in there... Also trying to get gifts for Christmas. Only a week till we get the tree out :xmastree::xmastree::D:D:D:D

Time to do lunches again.... Cheers folks
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

Up early this morning though I dont know why. Have got my car MOT Friday N9eav - they sent me some money off vouchers a while back & I am getting my car mot'd & serviced for less than half the price of a service last year. Now just hope it goes through ok.

Tuesday - hmmn nothing exciting today. Office work, some ironng & some tidying. Sausage n mash for tea.

Will try and get a couple more presents online today maybe even wrap up the inlaws which were done sometime ago.

Thats it for now, have a good day.x

    Morning all,

I've realised there is wireless here so I can use my laptop (not that I would ever bring work on holiday with me :) ) so my post won't be "Windows98" style like it was yesterday. I will go back and read the thread in a bit now the graphics load properly.

It is beautfil here - we booked a holiday cottage in the countryside outside Prague (about 20 mins by bus) and there are nine of us staying here - me, OH, six work collegues and a friend of one of my collegues who has travelled from Vienna to meet us. All is going pretty well :) The cottage is lovely, incredibly cheap (£6 pp, per night) and it is very easy to get into town. We spent yesterday wandering round the bead shops (OH is very tolerant). OH and I have been here before a couple of times independent of each other, so I don't need to do the touristy bits - just chill. :) I bought some lovely glass beads in the market and will go back and collect some more later on - they are shaped like tiny ladybirds. I think there is one Christmas market already started, but we are a touch early for the main ones. I like Christmas markets. I am off to Cologne, then Frankfurt in a couple of weeks - so will wander round the markets there.

The rest of them can cook their own breakfast - I did it it yesterday and they have appeared to already eaten what I wanted to cook anyway, so they can fend for themselves when they get up (I always seem to land responsible adult role - I don't really know why I do it to myself :) ) I like the food here but it's very heavy (usually bread dumplings, meat and sauerkraut) and vegtables are near absent. It isn't as inexpensive as it was last time I was here (the exchange rate is near half of what it was last time) but its reasonable in terms of cost.

I lose track of the travel we do each year - both OH and I have a fairly large travel option in our jobs, so we tend to tag along with each other we go :) Sometimes I sort out photos and can't rememeber where I took them.

Right - must go, have a good day all and hugs to those that need them, cel x

Another wet day here too by the look of it. Not many plans to be outside so it's not too bad. DS3 is going on a trip to a science adventure place in Sheffield - the school are bravely taking the entire Year 7  Braver than me I struggle with the noise of 4 children sometimes. We've had a look online and it looks a great trip. Just a shame that it's only open to schools it would have been a good place to go for us all.

Lunch today is going to be celery & potato soup and dinner tonight is spaghetti bolognaise. WM on it's 2nd go of the day. Need to swish & swipe the bathroom & kitchen, walk the dogs, do some ironing and have a pre Christmas clear out of DS2 & DS3's room. Back at MIL's flat tomorrow afternoon and all day Thursday.

world.gif to all who need one & have a good day.

    Morning all,

Wet and windy here again today, and supposed to stay the same until saturday .

I have a breast of lamb for tea, which I am going to turn into a moroccan type of stew, I was going to cook it first in the sc, but do you think it would be better on a low roasting in the oven ????

Little dog woke us in the night, barking the place down at something, OH went down stairs, and I looked out of the window :D, there was a cat in the garden , good to know though that she would make noise of she heard someone trying to get in.

I took the annual photo of little dog for the xmas cards yesterday, she is such a funny little thing and will do almost anything for a choccy drop, ( hm cards Aussie :p)

I need to pop to the post office today to collect a parcel, and to Mr T to pick up some chocs for dd's birthday, other than that it will be the usual round of cleaning, tidying, washing, packing boxes etc.

Have a good day all xx

    Morning

Why is it when you feel fairly contented with life...something comes and slaps you up the head??

About 3 months ago, DS2 (being a stupid 17 year old) got into a fight with another lad - the other lad chased DS2 for a mile last christmas brandishing a knife and luckily got away...anyway he started a fight with DS2 and DS2 finished it...and got arrested. The lad was still screaming 'im gonna f'in kill you' and he was took in the ambulance:rolleyes: nasty business which had me worried sick for weeks until we were due to go to answer his bail and the police rang and said the other lad wasn't making a statement (he'd been drinking and when he sobered up I think he realised that he had done the provoking) so that was to be the end of it.

Police arrived last night with a summons for 4th January for DS2 AND ME!! to go to court on the strength of a witness statements from a girl who works at McD's (with DS1) who describes DS2 as being 5'4 with black and red jacket and jeans....he's 6ft was wearing a trackcuit with a light grey and red coat....? she referred to the other lad by name so clearly she knows him....I haven't bloomin slept again!!

Thats my whinge done....thank you for listening

  • Good Morning Chums ,still very damp and Novembery here in North Kent. I have my eldest DD coming to lunch today, then later on my DGD coming straight from her college placement and I am treating her to Pizza and the pictures tonight to cheer her up a bit
I started on a new-born cardigan last night for DDs friend who is due in January and I had forgotten how long it takes to make it in 4 ply, lovely wool and very soft, but twice the work of double knit .Still it will be nice when finished and the lass its for has had a lot of trouble through this pregnacy and its only now that she is getting bits together for the new arrival.Makes a change from knitting my blankets at least.
Well time for some breakfast I think Have a lovely day everyone and take care if your out and about with the rain on the roads
    Cheers JackieO x

jc2703 Can you get some legal advice maybe? ((hugs)) to you it's an awful situation to be in as it clearly sounds as though this 'witness' is going along with it as she knows the other lad
