Some excellent ideas for presents there so far... I'm at a bit of a loss so far, he generally gets quite spoiled, but this year we just can't afford it... however, as you guys have given me some ideas, I thought I would let you know what I have bought in previous years....

..... my hubby is a big kid, as are many hubbies, so in the past I have bought him toys, ya know, stuff they can play with, that send them right back to their early teens.... year before last I bought him a small remote control helicopter, which was reduced down from £30 to £15 in the pre-christmas sale. He loved it, he was worse than the kids, told them to take all of their stuff upstairs so he could play with his new toy, and to tell the truth, it kept him busy for hours, and he proudly showed all of his mates when they visited.

Last year I bought him a Scalextric Need for Speed set, I remember the woman stood behind me in the queue, she had overheard me telling my friend about it and just had to ask if she had heard me right, that I was buying it for the hubby, I said yes! She thought it was a fantastic present idea and told me she thought my hubby was so lucky because I thought of something a bit different. I was a little embarrassed, because I always thought they were a bit daft, but I of course thanked her for saying so. That went down a treat too.... the kids were cleared out, the table was moved, the rug was lifted and he set it up in the middle of the living room floor (we are talking about a 40 year old bloke here lol).

For any of you Simpsons fans out there, you may recall an episode where they all go to family therapy, which involves being hooked up to an electrical device, and when one said something the other didn't like, they were meant to give a short sharp burst of electricity through the device.... only the Simpsons being the Simpsons meant that it went too far and they all ended up electricuting each other.... what has this got to do with things I hear you say?? Well, the hubby, being the piece of work that he is, had told our girls (aged 10, 11, 14 and 16) that one day he would hook them up to a device and electricute them... well this year, I managed to make his dream come true.... I bought him something called "Shocking tanks". They are basically remote control tanks.... the object is to get a direct hit on your opponent, who then receives an electric shock through the handset!! Well, he did get the girls (and me) but they were quick and got him too.... very, very funny, a bit painful and definitely worth getting if you can manage to get them on a special offer (I think I paid something like £15).
    Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

    30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)

Just adding something else I forgot :rotfl:

OH's surprise is a DAB radio from Studio catalogue. I know he'll love it but Im beginning to worry as stock not expected until 4 December!! Will also probably get him some M&S undies and a pair of jeans from Matalan. Last year I got bargain of the century in Matalan sale on Xmas Eve believe it or not - a chunky blue jumper reduced from about 25 to 10 - and hes worn it to death! Will be sneaking into town Xmas Eve while hes at work again this year (overtime paid on the 23rd, thank god!!!!) to see if I can pick up any more such bargains :D

For my other male family members....

    Brother and BIL have Adidas sets (you know the ones, deodorant and shower gel) which were £2.99 each from B&M Bargains;
    Dad has:
A Share in a Gold Mine - (mum thought this was a slightly strange present but agreed he would like it!) this was £25 from Studio catalogue.
Best of Father Ted DVD - £4, Asda
Old Spice set - £4, Tesco
Pack of 6 'fresh feet' socks (these go for about a tenner in M&S but I paid a fiver in Matalan - whether or not theyre any good though remains to be seen :rotfl:)
'Dad's beer' glass (this is genius - it has it written in Budweiser style writing and my Dad loves Bud so I couldnt resist - he also has 6 bottles of Bud to go with it)

This year I have got my OH (26-year-old boy)

    *Antique-style globe £70
*Spaced DVD box set £9 (Amazon)
Folio Society edition of A Christmas Carol £13 (eBay)
*Two Flashman paperbacks £3 each (eBay)
Hardback Tolkien book £3.50 (chairty shop)
Hand-knitted Christmas jumper (free, knitted by me)
    Special edition Marmite £2.50 (Morrisons)
    I love Spreadsheets mug £5 (Play.com)
    Condom selection box £5 (Play.com)
    24 Season 3 £20 (Amazon)
    Alien Quadrilogy £12 (Amazon)
*Two John le Carre paperbooks £4 each (eBay)
*Pride and Prejudice and Zombies £3 (Amazon)

So it's about £150, which is much less than I spent last year. The things with the * are from his Christmas list (he's been after the globe for years).

    Brother (23)

Both Turtles films on DVD £8 (Amazon) (he loved them when he was a kid - well, we all did!)
Lonely Planet China £12 (Amazon) (he's going in Feb)

    Brother (2 months)

    Knitted stocking (free)
A baby present, still to buy!

Dad (50, has everything, blind, loves gadgets)

Retro sweets £6 (Bury market) (especially sports mixture)
5 Audio books £5 (my audio book dealer!)
    Poptastic keyring £5 (Play.com)
Possibly a wine-brewing kit as he used to do it and was fantastic £20?

The other men I have to buy for are two teen (19, 17) cousins (probably beer), grandparents, and OH's dad. Hampers for the grandparents went down well last year, probably do something similar this year.
