I found a Codorniu Vintage Cava in Tesco yesterday at 6.99, having previously been twice that. Having been to the vineyard, it should be good as everything I've tried before from them has been.0

The Codorniu vintage cava is back on offer in Tesco at the moment, half price, was £13.99 now £6.99. Have bought 12 bottles for my little girls christening in July. Offer on until 22nd may. Hope this helps someone x£2 Saving Club 2024 #3 £12.000

Any good deals for cava or fizzies about? I've checked mysupermarket and the Majestic Wines websites, but I can't find anything for less than £5 / bottle.
I need enough for 200 flutes for a toast - those toasting wouldn't know Dom Perignon from Lambrini. Cava seems like a good compromise to minimise wastage...and I'd also be happy to accommodate any leftovers!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

200 / 6 = 34 bottles at least; call it 3 * 12 or 6 * 6 = 36
The suggestion in the link below is that the UK tax is now £3 a bottle or more so potentially something in the region of £100 saving to be made.
You should be able to buy something of dubious quality from a French supermarket considerably cheaper (buy one bottle and try it in the car park - but beware of low limit French drink driving laws:
Eurotunnel and ferry companies will try to persuade you to purchase a breathalyser from them some using scare tactics but non French motorists actually have a grace period ending Nov 1st. 2012)
Unfortunately at this time of year a cheap cheap crossing for a car is unlikely.
[Famously, for my daughter's 18th birthday Hovespeed (RIP) paid me to take my car to France]

Eventually in the separate Car accessory building of one L'eclerc supermarket I found a full box of them hidden away - 1 Euro each.
Can you imagine the scene if it was Britain bringing in this law, Every single shop would have piles of them with dire warnings about the new law in just 1 month's time. They'd be 2 for a pound in Poundland an some supermarket would give them free with 2 bottles of plonk. They'd have Union jack versions for the Jubilee and the Daily Wail would be running stories on how they give you some unspeakable disease.
Some other tabloid would run a story in big letters, 'New Blow, Jobs
lost due to booze test' . MSE would tell you the cheapest place to buy them (with cashback of course), Blue Peter would show you how to make your own, panic buying would lead to 'shortages' and prices would start to creep up.
I had asked various French type people where they had got theirs and not one had even given it a though or had any urgent plans to track some down.
have a theory though... The damn ferry companies have bought all the stock to flog to unsuspecting brits at £7.50 a pop. I'm sure the ferry was listing cos it was carrying so many of the things
PS. They are dated and last two years.0 -

Try tesco wine by the case, some sparkling wines starting at £3.49 per bottle when buying buy the case, can't comment on the taste of this cheap wine as I haven't tried it.
I personally love prosecco Starting at £6.49 a bottle.I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
