Looks like Champagne is back in the weekly email this week. I was interested to find out if the champagne mentioned in the email is actually any good and the first link I came across on google was this:

I think I won't bother.0 -
Tesco are currently selling Lanson Black Label Champagne Non Vintage 75Cl for £16.49 reduced from £32.99 until 27/11/2012. Is that any good to you?0

It's an interesting piece you have quoted. I agree that the supermarkets have probably been hoodwinking us a bit on the matter of "bog-standard" Champagne.
Speaking as one who has a 'favourite champagne', (Veuve Clicquot, closely followed by Piper Heidsieck) I think the Etienne Dumont which is mentioned in the article is a perfectly acceptable champagne, but no great shakes. I don't recallever paying more than £13.00 a bottle for it, Sainsburys frequently have it on at a 'promotional' price.
The Lanson deal at Tesco right now seems good, although their own Finest Premier Cru NV Champagne Brut is currently £14.99 a bottle, and if it's up to the same standard as previous years, a decent buy at that price.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0
