ahh well I can beat you both...for those who havent met me (Weezl and shaz have :) .)..it would be fair to say that excercise is about as enjoyable to me as the dentist...what did my sister give me for Christmas? A years subscription to Zest magasine...I tried to change it but alas, she got it with clubcard points so I cant switch to another mag...what a waste but have to be impressed by her frugalness.
As for caring what mums say we all do and always will! What you do with your money is your choice weezl and if you would rather be mf than have the "tea" (replace with appropriate luxury item) then thats the right choice for you. We all have choices to make in terms of how we spend our money and each of us should respect the others choice - even if its not what we would have chosen! Even more improtantly hope baba does a twist...apparently if you burn somekind of chinese herbs by your feet it makes em turn..dont know why but why not ask mw? Still some time to go though but not nice to get a kicking!

The only people who know that we are trying to pay off our mortgage early are my parents as they know I want to work part-time, they think it;s a great idea and they themselves paid off their mortgage as soon as they knew that my dad had to retire early because of his sight problems.

We haven't told anyone else but mainly because we just don't seen any very much as they all live away and it's not something we talk about when we catch up. I don't really care if they think it's a good idea or not! :-)

I actually don't want anyone to know now as when I have broached it I've been looked at like I've gone mad. No-one really knows, although I've mentioned it in passing at work. My 2 best friends don't live nearby, 1 is totally broke & the other not well off so would feel like rubbing their noses in it. No-one knows I do MS, apart from 1 person who thinks I do the odd bit.

Funny as I'm very open in other ways.

Weezl, I could & have given up a lot but not my Lady Grey T-bags

  • For those of you becoming mf good on you! As a dfw that seems a long way away but one day I will make overpayments! Funny though isnt it that people generallytoday have such a credit mentality that they think its odd to want no debt!
What people dont think on is that no debt of any kind would be the most freeing/liberating thing ever...problem is that most people who havent been in debt or had money probs dont understand the effective prison sentence caused by debt or the money that they spend.... My problem is also that I would rather have some debt and enjoy some luxuries than be mega frugal and df/mf...at the end of the day its about choices and each to their own as to what they choose...

Feeling a little disheartened after a conversation with my mum about money and my MFW goals. For DH posh teas like Lapsang have become a 'treat item' and my mum thinks that this is very sad for DH. I tried to explain that for us, no cuppa tastes as good as the lifestyle changes we'll be able to make once we are MF. But I don't think she got it, and she feels in her own words 'judgemental' about it.

Hey Weezl, I feel sad for you that you feel sad about this but think it is only a difference of perspective. DH I am sure loves you for all those little quirks that make you so interesting and unusual, people have their own levels of what is too far in giving things up, I remember your 50p a day thread had one thing which was not compromised on, your coffee, you chose your treat wisely and enjoyed it all the more for its rarity.
I believe there is a lot of contentment to be found in leading a simpler life and you are benefitting more than yourselves in your lack of reliance on a consumerist disposable society. Being MF is a great aim, but the journey itself is exciting and thrilling too, new foods, new ways of doing old tasks, new babies... :) As long as you are not putting your entire life on hold whilst you undertake to become MF then more power to you :)

  • I wanted new wellies for Christmas- i got a clock. I like the clock, but would have had far more use out of the wellies. So i can sympathise Shaz.

I think it is admirable that you want to clear your mortgage earlier. If i was your mum, i would have probably bought the posh tea as a surprise for you both.

Hope baby turns for you soon. I remember my midwife talked about turning DS if he didn't do it himself..he must have heard because he did. :)

I think it is an important goal and financial security for you and your family. I sometimes listen to my mum and i am 10 years older than you. My DD1 doesn't listen to me at all, well she does in some things- she has learned about quidco. Keep going and don't take her comments to heart. :)

Weezl - sorry baba is presenting breech. Old wives tale hands and knees scrubbing floors is supposed to help them turn. Littlest pixie was breech at 28 had turned by 30 but the I got pre E and it went all too hell.
I think mothers just have a subconcious desire to pee on kids parades. I don't think its malice its just way it is. My mum is the same. I have a projected OP schedual stuck to fridge and each time she is over its always aa looks good on paper but never works out that way in practice. Hmm it will work if i stick to my quite generous budget!!

Weezl - hpe bubba shifts position for yousoon, my Lo was breech right up until 34 weeks, so there is still plenty of time yet for bubba to make his/her move.

On the mother front, my mum died 7 1/2 yers ago now ans i still think if what she would say or think, she was a frugalite all her life ( had to be my dad was so tight with money in a bad way) so ost of the time, i imagine her good advice but there are still a few times when i know when she would not agree, but i hve to keep reminding myself this is my life now.

I am so glad you reached the under 67k on yoru mortgage, i cant wait to clear more debt so i can get started on my mortgage, your posts make me realise it is all possible, thanks :)

Weezl, tons of time for weezlette to turn yet - my DS turned at 34 weeks (ok, so I felt like an alien was going to explode out of me as he did it, but at least he turned ).

Nice choice of name - where did you get it from, I've only came across it once before? Also, what will you do if he doesn't look like a Kester when he's born (I didn't tell anyone my names as I was afraid they wouldn't 'fit' the baby :o)

"moxibustion" ISOM...."moxibustion"....nope thats not some strange swear word - thats the Chinese burning herbs treatment. A good acupuncturist would have the "gear" for that. Dont know if its recommended for breach babies or no - not having been in that position myself....

    Hope Kester duly :money:weezl....

EDIT: just had a quick google - and loadsa entries duly come up when inputting "moxibustion" + "breach baby"...
