hi all,
well, i decided to tackle my storecupboard plus £10pp challenge by giving myself a whole day to organise myself. I've been shopping this morning and although I have spent most of the money i think I have enough to get to the 40 day mark that I am hoping for. I've left myself a little in case I run out of milk, bread etc....
It amazes me how much I could buy for so little. I tried going to Aldi but our is so small that there wasn't a lot of choice really and prices were about the same as Mr T...... so I ended up back there. I did pop into Iceland and would def. go there once my freezers are a little emptier.
Here's what I bought (any ideas gratefully appreciated).
26 packs crisps @ £1.99
2 tins toms @ £0.38
5kg potatoes @ £1.99
Lard @ £0.29
Garlic sausage sandwich meat @ £0.39
6L longlife milk (haven't tried this in years - hope it's improved!) @ £3.55
dandelion and burdock (wife's tipple) @ £0.44
2x cola (my essential!) @ £0.74
Value squash (amazingly the same calorie content as the sugar free stuff) @ £0.54
Sunflower oil @ £1.29
Value leeks @ £0.99
3 bags Carrots @ £1.44
Salt @ £0.23
Bag of banana's @ £0.77
2 lg bars milk choc @ £1.14
3 bars plain choc @ £0.84
Caster sugar @ £1.81
sugar @ £1.61
dessicated coconut @ £0.49
yeast @ £0.50
plain flour @ 0.64 (they'd run out of the cheaper one)
SR flour @ £0.33
2x sunflower spread @ £0.58
2x curry sauce @ £0.08!!!!!
2x butter @ £1.58
lrg natural yoghurt @ £0.98
pickle @ £0.25
8x yohurt @ 0.58
bicarb soda @ £0.49
baking powder @ £0.49
wheat biscuits (fake weetabix!) @ £2.15
large tray cooked meat (half price) @ £2.15
15 eggs @ £1.49
total spend: £33.17
right, off to do an inventory of all our food and then to see how many meals I can make0 -
That tray of ham and jar of pickle made 18 sandwiches that I have bunged in the freezer for my wife's packed lunches
I think that I should be able to make my store cupboard stretch quite far.... although we are quite low on meat so will have to eek that out a bit.
Day 4 Main meal - sausage and tomato pasta with fresh hm bread..... if i can find an easy bread roll recipe that is!
might make some choc brownies for afters...... very money saving but not very waist watching!0 -
I've made a loose meal-plan for the next six days dinners, using what we've already got in the freezer/cupboards. Apart from the usual fruit, veg & dairy...I reckon we're settled till then at least.
Two joints..1 will make 2 meals & the other cold ciuts for lunch box/cold cuts
HM pizza
Chicken breast meat
Stewing steak
& spy mince...connoction that's shaken off its ID tag so could be bolognaise/could be cottage pie:D
Even Pup is covered, with having most of what we do, & ox liver casserole to cover the mince dish I]dogs can not have onion or leek, but can have garlic[/I

Why not ?
I don't have a dog (well I do but she lives with mum 300 miles away!) but she used to get mince a lot and there may have been onion in it. I hope it did not hurt her
.
Do dogs like garlic ?
We give our cat leftovers sometimes but am not sure what we should avoid really- I just do it to save opening another can of cat food- so the stash of cans lasts longer (so this is store cupboard related- honest lol).

Day 6 main meal - hm beefburgers to go with the bread rolls made yesterday
I'm afraid that most of the hobnobs have gone already. I'm not sure how money saving the food I baked yesterday actually was..... some items were probably the same cost in ingredients as they would be bought in the shop. They were nicer but of course that means they are going to be ate quicker too.
Anyone any ideas for really cheap recipes???0 -
I've been following advice from the Pets thread on here & obviously speaking to the vet when Pup goes for jabs & stuff....but the training school we went to & various 'proper' sites recommend garlic as a natural defence against "little lodgers"
Pup doesn't have a lot of garlic, but if I'm doing--eg spag bol--everything apart from onion goes into his. I've a recipe from the school for training treats made with liver, wholemeal flour & garlic..most of those are apparently a no-no on the first site Angelnikki found
He doesn't have too many potatoes either so that helps with the pasta, couscous & rice stores & we have me muvva's empty bread bags to use first for lunch box sarnies or the freezer & finally recycled as his poopie-doop bagsFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Looks like you're well stocked!
Regarding your DH eating meat, have you tried making veg pasta and then adding some cooked chicken just to his portion? Sausage Stew is nice and easy to make - saus, toms, baked beans, worchester sauce, onions - with a Jacket Potato, healthy if you limited your number of saus!
Perhaps you could make a list of meals that are easy to do with the ingrediants you have and see what you have left over?Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
