Right today I am going to make a list of what is in the freezer and make meal plans till it's gone!!!
There is a little build up of frost in the bottom and I want to give it a jolly good clean but I need to empty the contents first - and preferably by eating it rather than taking it out and putting it back in again
Wish me luck gang - I'll post it all on here later *gulp* so hopefully there will be loads of good ideas!!!

I fear so! Drat didn't realise how much I have in there - really should keep up my "what's in the freezer" list I have stuck to the front of it :rotfl:
Anyone have any suggestions for the squids? Other than defrost and very quickly fry off and service with Mojo Sauce from canary islands (yum) - maybe a slowly cooked dish to make sure they're REAL tender?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

We found defrosting and cleaning out our upright freezer in the garage an "enlightening" experience. We had lots of stuff in there we'd forgotten about, so listed everything individually on an Excel spreadsheet which we pinned up in the kitchen and crossed it off as we used it. It really concentrated our minds on menu planning and worked well for a year until domestic circumstances temporarily caused us to take our eye off the ball and forget to cross things off, or write it newly added items.
However, with the autumn crops to be added before too long I think I need to repeat the exercise. There's no point in using electricity to store stuff which isn't going to be eaten up.
Mrs Tine - maybe you could include your squid in a fish pie, or in a paella with some of your chicken and chopped bacon pieces.0 -
oooo i like the Paella idea!! *slurp*DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

oh at last , someone with as much stuff stashed away as me, I was beginning to think it was just me! I think I need to enlist the help of a friend to write a big list while I shout stuff out and do the sticking it on the fridge trick. There's enough food for about 3 months in our house at any one time, bit ott really.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0

Thanks for this thread Mrs Tine :T its my job today as well - building myself up to it as it will take a while:o I have 2 freezers, a large upright one in the garage and a half one in the kitchen - so I quickly forget what is in them. A list is required for definate and some plans from that with any luck.
Only problem I have is that I always seem to go 1 step forward and 3 steps back with this job - living on my own I grab something out of the freezer like a pack of mince for example - make something gorg with it - chilli maybe -eat a portion - then end up putting 6 portions back in the freezer:rolleyes: :rotfl: Maybe I should just uplug them and go back to my years of stab stab pings:D
anyway Im going in will update later:j0 -
You two and me as well ! We have enough home grown soft fruit in the freezer alone to provide a year's worth of desserts, even though we don't regularly eat one and I still have a cupboard full of jam made a year ago. What we really need in there is a bigger supply of meat type products for producing economical main meals. I'm regularly try to diminish the fruit by eating it with porridge but my OH just won't give up his savoury type breakfasts so am making fairly slow inroads into the supply. Think I'll have to turn some of it into fruit syrups so that I can make them into hot drinks in winter and boost my Vitamin C level. This "clearing out the freezer" exercise really makes you concentrate on a better level of menu planning!0
