I also have a couple of tins of salmon which are a couple of months out of date. Presume these will be ok to use but again a bit stuck for ideas as I don't really fancy them in sandwiches. Would be grateful for any suggestions!
Your carrot soup will be thicker once you've blended it, so don't worry at the moment. If it's still a bit thin afterwards you could add some cornflour, or try a bit of cooked potato and blend again - either will make it thicker.
The tinned salmon should be fine to eat - as far as I know things in tins last pretty much forever. The only thing I can think of to do with it is fishcakes, though, so hopefully someone will come along with some better ideas shortly!Back after a very long break!0 -

Unfortunately, my millionaire's shortbread was disgusting and had to be thrown away. Don't know what I did wrong but think I got a bit muddled with the quantities somewhere along the way as I was trying to double up to make 2 lots plus I followed a recipe I found on here & it didn't state cooking times or temperatures & I obviously guessed incorrectly as it was yuk! Mind you, I do need very explicit instructions sometimes with cooking & baking, lol!

Fish cakes I think! We're having fishcakes with LO salmon, but you can still do it with canned salmon instead of fresh."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Long Tall Sally - here is a thread about tinned salmon, and one about fresh salmon so you can get some ideas !
Sorry to hear your shortbread didn't work out - any time you are unsure, just bump the thread or get in and ask someone. Sometimes, I'm literally sitting at the computer with my pot in my hand waiting for someone to answer a question for me! I would have rang my gran but she's no longer with us now, so instead I have yous lot.
Re your soup - blend or mash then see how thick it is then as CCP says. I have a suspicion you don't have enough veg in but check the consistency after blending/mashing (i tried mashing yesterday, works much better than i thought and saves me cleaning the FP) . If you are adding cornflour i would do a cornflour paste and stir it in over the heat - wouldn't it need heat to thicken? (thinking out loud)
An alternative is remove some liquid now before you blend it, see how you go. If you need extra liquid you can add it, if not, you could use it as a base for future or for cooking rice or something?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I can totally identify with your experience! Had a disastrous bread-making experience the other day (and it was even a packet mix!). Never mind, the clever folks here will help us until we become cooking gurus ourselves.
Not sure what's on the menu tonight - perhaps a stir-fry with my frozen mix. If I do that I'll make extra rice to do something with tomorrow.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

DH has had lamb curry made with the tiny remains from yesterdays joint and veggies and a packet of basics savoury rice, both DS's have had HM bolognese sauce from the freezer with spagetti, and I have had a pasta/bolognese concoction which I found in the freezer.
I make a loaf daily so we have all had some of that to fill up with.
This is after both boys had had tuna sandwiches using the hm loaf , yogurt and hm cake when they came in from school. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

Seems like ages since I was last here
DH and I have a week off to decorate our sitting room, so lots more opportunities to clear the freezer :j
Yesterday we had croissants for breakfast. I made a HG rhubarb crumble for tea (and the pheasant was delicious - it's made a lovely rich stock, too, for soup-lunch later this week).
For supper today I made a chicken curry. There was enough for 2 meals, so some will go back into the freezer, so a free meal for next weekThe children had banana cake for pudding.

Long Tall Sally - you can thicken soup using instant mash if you have any. A tip from Slimming World.
One more chicken gone from the freezer yesterday, and nothing added to the cupboards. Itching to go and have a look in Netto though - Lynz I blame you!'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Shepherd's pie tonight for dinner so used up some spuds out of the bottomless sack  and a couple of tins of veg from cupboard. DD won't eat mince so she cooked her and her B/F pasta with peppers, mushrooms and ham in a cheese sauce so a few more odds and ends used up there. :T
I'm loathed to say it but I have to go shopping tomorrow ! Just remembered I had some cheese in the freezer so went and got it out as I know I'll forget I've got some and buy some more . I do need pack-up bits and bobs and bread/milk and a few other basics but I'm doing a list and definitely sticking to it. Will meal plan tomorrow (day off work) and try to incorporate as much of storecupboard/freezer into it as possible.
I used to rather enjoy shopping but since being on this thread, I've changed my mind :rotfl: :jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -

Well I had a portion of hunters chicken from the freezer for my dinner today, but have put a few pots of concentrated hm chicken stock back in. Smaller containers so I'm halfway there ;-)0
