CCP thanks for sharing the cider cake recipe - might have to make that this week !

I hope you enjoy it! The one bit of advice I can now give is - don't try to make small ones in a muffin tin. My mini cider cakes collapsed while I was trying to get them out of the tin, so now I've got a pile of cider cake crumbs instead. :(

    They're very tasty crumbs, though...

Obviously theres loads of stuff for the beef mince and the fish can be thrown into a fish pie, struggling with the lamb mince though and the sliced duck breast (cooked). The duck was bought at DH staff shop for £1 for 1k bag, it takes up loads of space but I have no idea what to do with it. So any suggestions gratefully received. :)

Hello kidcat! Lamb mince can be used for just about anything you'd use beef mince for - I particularly like it in moussaka or as keema curry. Lamb burgers made with mince are nice, too - you could add some herbs (mint or rosemary perhaps) to make them a bit different. I'm not keen on duck so I'm not sure about that - perhaps you could have it in wraps with hoisin sauce and spring onions for a cheat's Chinese duck pancakes?

No, I don't think so. They really were very tasty crumbs - there's none left now! :o

  • I managed to get rid of several slices of bread. Well I say slices..... I had packed some in foil in the fridge for sandwiches. The rest was in the freezer but the bag got rather squanched up. WhenI came to separate the slices they fell apart on me. I decided to do the savoury bread and butter pudding thing. Although a simple recipe it was only for one so i just guessed how much milk and put one egg in. I also used some onions (frozen by my own fair hand!) and some slices of tomato as well as frozen grated chese and some mustard mixed with the milk and egg.

It was not at all bad infact I meant to have some the next day but it went down in one :D

Do they not deliver to you ?? LINKY
Thanks for digging out the link. I'm in Dublin and they don't seem to deliver here. Probably just as well though!

I'm stuffed - had a lovely comfort food dinner: fried an onion, garlic, mushrooms, sweetcorn, peas and leftover spuds. Popped into an oven dish with a bit of grated cheese and topped with my new fake breadcrumb topping (ie crumbled stale crackers).

I'm quite proud - I was in Lidl with my sister and I managed not to buy anything. Normally I would have come away with something - and if nothing inspired me I would have bought a few tins of tomatoes "just in case".
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

But for now I am looking for ideas to use up the left over lamb which isn't a huge amount tbh but don't want to waste it and as we rarely have lamb I am a bit stuck for ideas so any offered would be greatly received thankyou?

Depends how far you have to stretch it, but with leftover lamb or beef I always fry an onion, add made up gravy, then add the leftover meat to warm through. Servie with mash & veg of your choice - delightful!!!! :D

Im busily working through the stockpile of MUlled wine pouches again

Unfortunately I had to go to the shop to buy more wine! :rotfl:

Sort of defeats the thrifty object! Spend 2.00 on mulled wine bags, 20 quid on wine to go with.....

    :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

five slices of rye bread (for sandwiches, possibly, although it's in the freezer because I didn't like it much)

    Any ideas, anyone? Please?! :)

I don't like rye bread either toasted or otherwise. I do make a nice mexican bean bake thing using tinned beans, peppers and passata with a topping of rye crumbs.

Used up quite a bit of veg from the bottom of the fridge but not much else this weekend. Big batch of tom and lentil soup made for the freezer.
