Your bread and veg parcelly-thing sounds lovely, Confuzzled. I'd never thought of doing anything like that - I'll give that a go with some of the odds and ends in my fridge, I think. Thanks very much for the idea.

you're quite welcome! basically this is just a fancy version of stromboli (where you stuff italian bread dough with cheese, meat, veggies etc) i suspect stromboli is an italian use it up recipe ;)

thanks for your suggestions about celeriac, even though not glamourous ideas it's still good to know the the proportions of how much to mix with what and i don't always feel like doing something fancy anyway so it's all good and helpful, thank you!

however, should anyone feel inspired to share your tried and true celeriac recipes i'd love them... i saw something once about celeriac and parsnips (another veg i feel i should eat more of) so i shall have to look that out again methinks

how strong is the celery flavour in celeriac? i read up and it said if using the leaves and stalks to be warned they are far stronger than celery but am i right in thinking that the root portion of celeriac that i have is milder tasting than the celery stalks i normally buy?

Well we snapped and went shopping today, did the combo of M&S, Waitrose and 99p stores.

Ive decided I qite like random shopping, where you buy a few things on offer and vaguely shape them into meals :D

Bought some raly useful food like a whole chicken, ribs ( i have a marinade to use up) and some oats.

Tonight Im doing steak fajitas with some frying steak on offer in Waitroses, with rice, sour cream. I had some wraps and a half a lettuce I needed to use.

I also bought 2x baking apples today with a view to making some sort of crumble along with maybe some of this dried fruit or the cherries in syrup and can use honey & oats as part of the topping? Then coulod use up the rest of the evaporated milk with these, although I did buy some cream as well today. .

Anyone got any tips for making these crumbles I was thinking maybe in Ramekins?

I love parsnips & cant wait for them to get a bit cheaper ;) I usually just roast them though, or sometimes add sesame and honey to roast them for a bit of difference. Served with bangers & mash, roasts, chops etc. Ive had curried parsnip soup beofre which was lovely.

OH claims he doesnt like them so I too am on the hunt for recipes for these :D

lidl is selling a 500g bag of parsnips this week for 59p if that helps any (at least that's what they were on friday when i went for my fresh fruit top up for the wee one)

parsnips aren't something i grew up with (lived in the states for the first 28 years of my life) so though i know you can roast them and i do really enjoy a nicely done honey roasted parsnip i'm not all that good at cooking them myself just yet

i have had parsnip in soup and that does sound very appealing indeed, perhaps i'll ferret out some recipes for that, maybe i can sneak in some celeriac when no one is looking ;)

Sorry to keep bothering you all but we just made a mexican type meal.

We grilled 4 pork loin steaks.
We sauteed 2 onions then added one jar enchilada sauce and 1 jar hot green jalepenos and poured on top of pork.
Served with brown rice and also refried beans.

There are only 2 of us so we plan to freeze half for another time - however I am not sure if the refried beans can be frozen? It was a tin, Old El Paso I think. You just heat up on the hob for 5 minutes...

How do you guys know what can and can't freeze? Is it just trial and error? I'm a bit worried about making us ill! lol x

I had a good day on Saturday cooking for the freezer while DH was at work and have used up this week:

    ¼ bag frozen diced onion
    1 tub passata
    3 tins toms – no more left:eek:
    2 tins soup
    Jar puntanesca sauce
    Last bit of desiccated coconut
    ½ big bar milk chocolate
    2 squishy oranges
5 eggs about to go ood
    3 bags quorn mince
    1 bulb organic garlic
End of a jar of lazy garlic
    7 pork sausages
    1/3 bag of potato croquettes
    1 small tin corned beef
    ½ dozen value Yorkshires
    2 garlic baguettes
    Leftover cheeseboard and crackers

I now have 6 portions of bolognaise sauce, 1 portion of tomato pasta sauce, 2 Runners pies for the freezer along with an orange and coconut cake, choc chip cookies and Cornish fairings to stuff our faces with this week.:D

I also defrosted a chicken over night which DH will have roasted tonight and for curry and sarnies during the week. I will use up some odds and ends of frozen vege ‘meat’ things this week.

Mama67 Thanks for the tip about using penne in macaroni cheese. I haven’t had that for ages so I think I will add it to this week’s meal plan.

Aldi have them on super6 this week for 39p! I had to get some even though they weren't on the menu. They will be now.

Had a half cabbage in the bottom of the fridge not getting any younger, so I chopped it and steamed it and put it in the freezer. Can use it for Bubble and squeak.

Hmm, just have some tomatoes to 'deal' with. Might fry some for lunch with herbs and onion and get a helping of mash from the freezer.
